What To Do In Utah During Winter – I love traveling with my family, but it can be difficult to find a winter vacation destination that is fun for everyone. Luckily, Park City has something for everyone.
Last Christmas I was horrified to find out that it was my turn to leave our family. Our tribe consists of my parents, my two brothers, my brother-in-law and my husband, and almost everyone has a different idea of what makes the perfect vacation.
What To Do In Utah During Winter
We finally settled on Park City, Utah. The family-friendly mountain resort town seems like the perfect winter destination with the added convenience of the main airport (Salt Lake City International Airport) just 30 minutes away. My husband and I visited several times and was comfortable playing tour guide for the group. We know it will be difficult to please everyone on a week-long trip – but Taman Kota is up to the challenge.

The key to coming together on our family vacations is realizing that everyone doesn’t have to do everything together. Many members of my family like to ski, so they are ready to spend the day on the slopes. Some others were beginners looking for gentle, medium flow. And some, like my parents, like the comfort of a warm cabin.
The good news: Park City offers it all. This area is home to two world-class ski resorts, Park City Mountain Resort (including another ski area, Canyon Village) and Deer Valley Resort. My husband, brother and I spent two days skiing until our legs felt like rubber, while my brother and his wife opted to take group lessons. At the end of the day, I knew it was a success when they talked excitedly about winning their first Medium Blue race.
In Park City, you don’t have to ski downhill to enjoy the amazing scenery. This area is full of fun activities that will keep the whole family entertained. One sunny afternoon we took a break from the noise of the city and went cross-country skiing instead. My parents took lessons at the White Pine Touring Nordic Center, skating on outdoor trails while admiring the sparkling white terrain and serene alpine setting. Meanwhile, my husband and I explored the circular valley, which offers an extensive network of Nordic trails that provide a wonderful workout in the mountain air.
We all end the day with an impromptu slide – an activity that provides laughs and good times for people of all ages – in the neighborhood park.
Here Are The 9 Most Dangerous Things About A Utah Winter
City Park is decked out for the holidays and offers many family-friendly seasonal events. On our first night in town, we strolled down Main Street and took in the decorations, brightly lit pine trees and festive window displays. The next night we enjoyed going to the free Festival Park City Mountain Resort Snowfest in the ski village. It runs every night from mid-December to December 31 and includes live music, street entertainment, delicious food and more.
On Christmas Eve we went to the base area of Park City Mountain Resort to watch the annual torch parade. Local skiers put on a spectacular display of colorful lights as they descend the mountain. For Christmas cheer, “ooh” and “ahhh” over the moving lights while sipping fresh apple cider.
One thing our whole family can agree on is that we love good food – and there’s plenty to choose from in Park City. Try 350 Main for a great night out. Housed in a historic building, the restaurant offers inspired local and international cuisine. My favorite dish is salted smoked oysters on the half shell and topped with bacon sausage.
If you like sushi, go to Yuki Yama Sushi, which serves traditional sushi with precision and flair. They fly in their fish from the west and east coast every day, and the freshness is reflected in the taste. In addition, sake and creative cocktails are perfect accompaniments.
Winter At Utah Lake
But my favorite place for an après-ski drink is No Name Saloon. This colorful western bar is strewn from floor to ceiling with kiki and exotic antiques. This is a great place to grab some Utah craft beer or a tart and strong whiskey sour.
When all this is said and done, we end the trip with good memories and happiness. Despite my initial nerves, everyone in my family had a blast – which means Park City has a permanent place in my personal vacation record.
