When a bull elk is looking for a mate, it makes a strange sound that can be heard from afar. There is no other sound like it in all nature. It takes place only from mid-September to early October.

One of the best places to witness this strange but fascinating phenomenon is Estes Park. The annual Elk Fest is a free festival that’s also worth checking out while you’re there. You’ll find bugle contests, arts and crafts, live music, children’s activities, elk shows and beer gardens.
Sweet and juicy delicious apples are ripe for picking when fall arrives. There are many apple orchards to choose from in the state that allow the public to pick their own apples. Ia Ia Farm and Orchard is located about 36 miles north of Denver and is one of the most popular orchards in the state.
When you get home, you’ll be busy making delicious apple jams and jellies, pies and applesauce, or you can choose to go to Adam’s Apple Orchard & Country Store. Country stores have already done these things for you. The apple orchard is located about 73 miles northeast of Denver.
You may also want to know the average temperature for Colorado in October. It’s only around the 50s to mid-60s, so it’s usually a very nice time to visit. Just make sure you grab a sweatshirt or hoodie that you can throw on. Then enjoy hot apple cider when you feel cold.
