What To Do In Southwest Michigan This Weekend

When golfers flock to warmer climates, winter brings the opportunity for cross-country skiing fun on miles of fairways near this Benton Harbor golf course. Try the ocean liner for great views of Lake Michigan. End your visit at Plank’s Tavern at the Inn at Harbor Shores. This restaurant serves a variety of comfort food and offers an extensive drink menu, all with a view of St. Joseph River. Bring your own cross country ski equipment as rentals are not available.
What better way to stay active and social than spending a day on the slopes? If you need an adrenaline rush, go to Swiss Valley in Jones. This day use area will keep you busy with 11 runs. Swiss Valley hosts a variety of ski programs for all ages and a ski school for beginners. Add two national parks for different levels of surfing skills and you have something for everyone. A grab-and-go cafe maximizes your time on the slopes. Picnic with your group by the fire on the porch, or relax with specialty drinks and table service overlooking the ski slopes at the Chalet restaurant. Snowmaking ensures a long season. Often the best days in Southwest Michigan are made of simple pleasures. With numerous state parks and preserves throughout the area, hiking abounds around every corner. Enter the forest of sleep and enjoy the trees cut from the evergreen branches and the sparkling snow. Enjoy watching wildlife feed on winter berries. See miles of Lake Michigan, waves of rolling snow and feel the wind and sand. They admire the art of nature, painted in white and gray, sometimes with the symbol of the blue sky. Our sand dunes are transformed into winter playgrounds for skiing. Choose from bunny hills, steep drops and everything in between. Then run on to do it again!

If you’re looking for a quaint little town with tons of culture, look no further than Three Oaks. It’s not hard to imagine why the Christmas movie Prancer was filmed here. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a holiday postcard and come to life during the Annual Snowflake Pass at the end of November. Galleries, restaurants and shops all join in the fun offering delicious samples, holiday cheer and live music. End your night with a concert at the Acorn Theatre.
The holiday season doesn’t feel complete without spending time at Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve. Decorated with colorful vegetation, the conservatory has fragrant orchids and a flowing waterfall to provide an escape from the cold weather outside. More than 100 species of tropical ferns grow on the nearby rocks and beds. Sit by the pond to see goldfish and frogs. Don’t miss the lights of Fernwood outside, either! This popular event runs from late November to December. Buy tickets online in advance.
Warm yourself and the spirit of the community. This highly anticipated December event attracts loyal fans every year. At the Holiday Art Hop you can browse artists’ studios and watch local children showcase their musical and dancing talents while enjoying lavish food and drink with friends. Don’t miss Water Street Glass. Come in and warm up on the boardwalk that overlooks the hotshop, where you can watch artists make their craft.
Get into the holiday spirit easily during Light Up the Bluff. Caroling sets the mood of joy in the light of the trees in the city. Watch the children’s eyes light up as a million twinkling lights illuminate the sunset. Teens can walk on a bluff decorated with their favorite holiday characters and sing along to their favorite songs. Adults will enjoy the happy atmosphere of shopping in front of the store wearing the best of the season. Please note that the bluff lights and decorations keep the holiday spirit alive in mid-February.
Winter Things To Do In Southwest Michigan: Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, South Haven, & More
The Citadel Spectacular features a dazzling collection of holiday favorites and energetic dances by 36 students and faculty members. Narrated by Santa, who invites the audience to his holiday memories. This 90-minute production is full of festive nostalgia and is sure to delight audiences of all ages with appearances by our favorite characters, high kicks and fast dancing, and music that will take you back to your best holidays. memory Visit Santa immediately after the matinee performance. Performances are on December 17, at 2 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m.
Come out and enjoy a ride on the miniature trains, and enjoy a spectacular light display this holiday season at historic Eden Springs Park. Trains are on Saturdays and Sundays from 4-8 p.m. December 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18. Tickets are $4 per person (children 3 and under are free). CASH ONLY!

From Kalamazoo to South Haven on the shores of Lake Michigan, this 34-mile route passes through small towns, bustling towns on the shores of Lake Michigan, beautiful farms, orchards, and natural wetlands.

Tired Of Shoveling? Not To Worry, There’s Plenty To Do Around Southwest Michigan This Weekend
Our private Lake Emerson on the Castle Grounds and our free rowing boats offer visitors a fun and free activity during the warmer months (usually May to October). Listen to the birds singing. Watch out for the fish in the water. Find a sunrise or sunset.
If you enjoy bird watching, be sure to pack your binoculars. Our campaign offers you many opportunities to catch a variety of birds while you walk our nature trails or take advantage of our kayaks and paddle boats. Every day at the Castle you can see everything from birds and mountains to cardinals and woodpeckers. Our guests enjoyed nesting bald eagles, great harriers and red eagles. If you decide to go to one of our nearby parks or the shores of our lakes, then you can see American white pelicans, little sandpipers, indigo buntings, great blue herons, and more.
