Top Things To Do In Colorado Springs – Colorado is home to some of my favorite places, from the city of Denver to Rocky Mountain National Park and to add to the list, Colorado Springs. There are so many great things to do in Colorado Springs that it can be difficult to get everything organized during a long weekend, but it’s doable. Colorado Springs is a small town south of Denver that has been on my to-do list for a while, so when the opportunity arose to visit over a long weekend, I had a full schedule ready. .
From famous sites like the Garden of the Gods and Pike Peak to the lesser known Red Rock Gorge and the nearby Royal Gorge Park and Bridge, we’ve covered everything you need to know to know. about exciting tours in Colorado Springs.

Colorado has all seasons, so it’s important to understand how the weather can affect what you want to do. Colorado Springs’ southern location means winters are milder here than in other parts of Colorado. Like many places in Colorado, Colorado Springs is close to resorts and other winter activities, but it’s not the best place to ski unless you want to drive 1-3 hours. You can enjoy all that Springs has to offer in the winter, but the best time to visit Colorado Springs is from April to October, with peak season from June to August. Visit in time. This will ensure a comfortable temperature for activities like mountain biking in the Red Rock Canyon Open Air, hiking, or visiting Pikes Peak.
Top Things To Do This Holiday Season In Colorado Springs
We visited in late May, when temperatures were in the high 60s to 70s (F) and sunny. Very pleasant during the day and a bit chilly at night. There was still snow on top of Pike’s Peak, so we couldn’t drive to the top, but the newly renovated Cogway remains open every year.
Those who live and visit Denver have access to many beautiful places just a short drive away, and Colorado Springs is no exception.
Coming from Denver International Airport, you can rent a car and drive 2.5 hours south to Colorado Springs. Here’s what we did so we could stop in Denver and enjoy the city a bit before heading south. Warning is the possibility of traffic or construction during rush hour. Remember to use Google Maps first to plan your time.
There’s also a shuttle you can take to Colorado Springs, but you’ll definitely want to hire a car every once in a while to drive around town. For this reason, it makes more sense to rent a car from Denver International Airport if you’re flying that way.

Colorado Springs has its own airport, which is the fastest way to get there and works best if you don’t want to stay in Denver. But who wouldn’t want to stay in Denver? Flights to Colorado Springs airport can be more expensive and add transit flights, so decide what’s right for you.
Colorado Springs is great for everyone, adventurers, family, friends, and more. But like most places in Colorado, this is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. From mountain biking and hiking to the scenic Pike’s Peak Cog Railroad, there’s something for all levels to enjoy in the world of Colorado Springs.
First on the list and perhaps the most famous is the garden of the gods. The Garden of the Gods is a protected nature reserve that covers more than 1,300 hectares of sandstone. The large rock formations are hard to miss. The park is a great place to hike, hike, bike, hike and/or take a Jeep or Segway tour. There is a huge rock rising out of the ground and it is very impressive. Entrance to the park is free and open every day of the week. The Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., where you can learn more about the park and book tours.
We skipped the visitor center and drove through the park, stopping along the way to take in the beautiful views. What I love to do is rent an electric bike and ride around the park and surrounding area. Be sure to check out this tour option if you visit.
Events In Denver, Colorado
I highly recommend staying at the Garden of the Gods, but I prefer the less crowded nearby park, Red Rock Canyon Open Space. Red Rock Canyon Open Space covers more land than the Garden of the Gods—about 1,400 acres—and is great for hiking, biking, and rock climbing. We opted for mountain biking, which was probably the highlight of my entire trip and one of the best mountain biking experiences I’ve ever had (although I’m a beginner) ). There is plenty of parking in various locations, less people than Garden of the Gods and the like. However, the red rocks are less spectacular in Red Rock Canyon Open Space than in Garden of the Gods (as you might have guessed from the name).
Renting a mountain bike is easy. we went to Routes Outfitters near the Red Canyon Open Space and walked from the bike shop to the park entrance after picking up our gear and bikes. You can book in advance because they sell special bikes on weekends.
Then cycle back to the store and head to Trails End Brewery for tastings and food, conveniently located in the same shopping area as Routes.
Then Mount Pikes, also known as Mount America, is the highest peak in front of the Rocky Mountains. It was also the inspiration for 1893’s Kathryn Lee Bates’ America the Beautiful, which is pretty weird to think about. Pikes Peak is 12 miles from downtown Colorado Springs and is easily accessible by car. You can drive to the summit at 14,112 meters in the warmer months.

Another popular option is to take the cog railway to the top of the mountain for a more enjoyable ride. It takes about 3.5 hours to take the 9-mile railway up the mountain. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance if you’re visiting on a weekend, as they can sell out. Tickets cost $59 for adults and $49 for children. You can buy tickets here. The railway was closed for several years for renovations and will only reopen in 2021 with a new visitor center.
Feeling more adventurous? You can walk or bike up to Pikes Peak, or better yet, cycle down to the top.
The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was an unexpected highlight of our trip to Colorado Springs. The Royal Canyon Bridge is the tallest suspension bridge in the United States, offering amazing views of the depths of the canyon and the Arkansas River below.
It takes over an hour to reach the bridge from downtown Colorado Springs. The visitor center highlights the historical significance of the area and the construction of the bridge. The surrounding park has a number of activities for all levels: sky swings, zip lines, and my personal favorite Via Ferrata. In fact, the whole reason we visited the Royal Canyon Bridge was to cross Via Ferrata (because my partner Joey is also a civil engineer and loves a good bridge). For more information about the park and Via Ferrata, check out my post here.

Royal Gorge Bridge & Park did not disappoint. If you’ve been following for a while, you know we had a great experience doing the Via Ferrata in Nelson Rock, West Virginia, but you might like the Via Ferrata in Royal Gorge Park even more. The bridge is impressive and the view of the Arkansas River over the Gorge is amazing.
Cave of the Winds Mountain Park is a great stop for families and adults looking for fun. The park has many activities for you to choose from, such as cave tours, rock climbing, and ziplining. Guided cave tours are great on a rainy day. They range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Cave of the Winds also has the 2-hour Via Ferrata as well as the Horror-Dactyl boardwalk for thrill seekers. Terror-Dactyl will take you up a 150 meter cliff at 100 miles per hour. Find out about the park, prices and everything else here.
Doesn’t it sound good to go to Colorado without hiking? Colorado Springs has many trails nearby, but another standout is the Broadmoor Seven Falls Trail. The path takes a few steps along seven waterfalls. Total steps. 224! Falls Walk admission is $16 for adults and $10 for children (children under 2 are free).
