Pikes Peak is an amazing experience. A 3-hour 15-minute round trip train takes tourists to the highest 14,500 feet above sea level.

The trek to the top is an amazing journey with beautiful views of valleys, waterfalls, lakes, etc.

During the winter months between January and the end of February, the train ride up to 11,500 feet is not only due to the weather, but it is still worth a visit for great views of the snow-capped mountains.

These massive waterfalls have earned a place on National Geographic’s list of international waterfalls. This 181-foot waterfall reaches the ground in seven different steps, hence the name. This location is owned and operated by Broadmoor.

There are steps leading to the top of the waterfall with rest areas in between to enjoy the waterfall. The falls are completely frozen in December and January which makes them spectacular. There is an elevator to reach the roof and zipline tours for the adventure seeker.

Discovered 147 years ago, these caves are millions of years old. In 1869, Arthur B. Love saw these caves, but two brothers, George and John Pickett, further researched these caves to discover a wonderful underground world with limestone formations.

Various tours are held in the cave regularly to guide us through the geology of the cave. There are also adventure rides such as Bat-a-Pult, Wind Walker Challenge and Terror-Dactile.

So here’s my list of must-sees in Colorado Springs. There are many beautiful places in the springs, and I will publish detailed itineraries about each place soon.

Unique Things To Do In Colorado Springs

🤱 Mom Blogger 📖 Book Reviewer 🎒 Travel Blogger 💃 Kuchipudi Dance Teacher 🤳 Amateur Photographer, 👩‍🎨 Illustrator and 👩‍💻 Software Tester 😀 Colorado has been one of my favorite places to visit in the state, with so many different places to visit in the state. . An outdoor adventure for any time of year. I always grew up skiing in big towns like Aspen or Vail, but ever since my best friend moved to Denver a few years ago, I love to hop on trips- air to visit every chance i get! Last summer we went camping in the mountains and I’m excited for our next adventure in the coming weeks!

While there are many towns that top my favorite list in Colorado, I love exploring new places across the state! Earlier this summer, I attended one of the most beautiful weddings at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs with some of my favorite Dallas sisters (note: coming from a family of three sisters, I am totally drawn to friends with the same family dynamic). I have to say that Colorado Springs was never on my radar before this trip, but I loved it and can’t wait to go back, especially Broadmoor! (If any brides are looking for a wedding venue in the US, this wedding was amazing and I highly recommend the venue!)

My sister, Blair, has been telling me for years that we should plan a weekend getaway here as a family, and after the trip, I definitely understand why. The Broadmoor reminds me a lot of the Colorado version of The Greenbrier, our favorite hotel to visit as a family. The Broadmoor is a historic resort originally built 100 years ago, and is set around a golf course with its own private lake and beautiful mountain views. From countless restaurants to luxurious spas, this five-star hotel should definitely be on your travel bucket list! (If you’re looking for a good time, be sure to hit the Golden Bee one night for a super fun piano bar inside the resort)

After the wedding, Alison and I decided to plan an active day of hiking and exploring! The first stop on our list was Garden of the Gods, a Registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs. There are 15 miles of trails within the park to explore the red rock formations, and it was such a beautiful (and beginner friendly) place to explore! I recommend stopping at the nearby visitor center to grab a quick map to plan your route!

After our walk in the Garden of the Gods, we planned dinner at the 1858 Restaurant in Seven Falls. The short walk to dinner was very interesting and the restaurant had great views! Seven Falls is also recognized by National Geographic as one of the best “international waterfalls”. From hiking to ziplining, Seven Falls is a must-visit. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, be sure to climb the 224-step steep staircase for some of the best views around!

In addition to hiking, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo should definitely be on your bucket list. Although we didn’t have time to visit it, our friends did and they said it was amazing! Since this is America’s only zoo on a hill, you have the option of pulling a chair up the hill for an aerial view of the animals. Such a unique experience.

While you can catch a glimpse of Pikes Peak from the Garden of the Gods, plan a day to explore what many call “America’s Mountain.” You can take the world’s tallest cogwheel train (since 1891) for a three-hour adventure up the mountain, or you can drive or walk to the top.

Whether you’re planning a road trip to Colorado or just looking for a quick weekend getaway, I highly recommend booking a weekend on Broadmoor and exploring ‘ outdoors in Colorado Springs! , and we decided to go in that direction for a family vacation! It took a few years, but we finally got to drive 7 hours from Wichita and our family fell in love.

Things To Do In Denver This Weekend, May 13 15

Colorado Springs is a great little town with a variety of hotels and Airbnb options to choose from. We weren’t sure which part of town to stay in, but we chose the north end near I-25 because we planned to see the area a bit more during our 5 night stay.

There are two ways to get to the top of Pike’s Peak. The first is the 2-3 hour round trip carrying yourself as you navigate 19 miles of beautiful paved toll road ($40 for a carload) on the winding road. Don’t forget to bring your Dramamine! Otherwise, after a 3 year hiatus, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is open again! A complete refurbishment has been carried out, with the station, the carriages and the cog railway itself all being refurbished. It’s an amazing view and an hour and fifteen minute open car ride with a history lesson to and from the summit. Plan a half day to explore the new visitor center with a snack bar, gift shop, and many places to see. Dress for very cold temperatures and, at the moment, masks are mandatory and tickets sell out weeks in advance, so buy your tickets in advance! Tickets can be expensive, but we felt it was worth it. You can choose your seat for an additional $10 per seat. We wish we had chosen a seat on the 3 seater side rather than the 2 seater side as the view is much better.

My pre-teen boys love amusement parks. We didn’t want to go to Denver or break the bank so we opted to visit the North Pole outside of Manitou Springs. It is open from May to October, but closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It is open in November and December for selected dates. We spent several hours on the trip
