Over time, ancient mountains crumbled, dunes moved across the land, and seas receded. Today’s discoveries are amazing sedimentary rock remains.

Go to the southern end of the park and look for the tilted “Balanced Rock”. The towering sandstone cliffs of the Garden of the Gods offer excellent hiking and climbing opportunities. You can explore miles of hiking trails, take tours, go horseback riding, and discover the area’s geological past. Take your camera because the scenery is stunning.

At 14,115 feet, Pikes Peak is one of Colorado’s tallest mountains, sometimes called “America’s Mountain,” and offers stunning views of the region’s plains and mountains. The summit can be reached by the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest cog railway in the world, or by car.
On a clear day, you can see five states at the Pikes Peak Visitor Center: Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Kansas. Here you can find an exhibition about the history of the mountain, a small gift shop with souvenirs and a cafe.
A ride on the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is a unique experience. The railroad recently underwent a $100 million renovation and resumed service. This route takes you through the Pike National Forest, along Ruxton Creek, past Diamond Rock, inside the steep rock wall of Engleman Canyon, past impressive waterfalls and through Deer Park.

Meet the zoo’s giraffes face-to-face or watch an animal demonstration that teaches animal behavior and care. Then take a ride on the carousel and head into the high mountains on the Mountaineer Sky Ride. Elephants stretch their trunks for carrots, so you can feed them for a small fee.
The layout of the zoo is on the side of a hill. You can take the elevator to higher areas and see the animal exhibits below. Another great bird feeding experience is to give them poppy seeds along with their favorite food.

The Manito Cliff Dwelling is an ancestral Puebloan cliff dwelling with over 700 years of history. Guests can tour the houses and learn about local history and culture.
These dwellings are preserved under the protection of red sandstone and can be explored room by room on a self-guided tour. At the Pueblo and Anasazi Museum, you can see the beautiful tools and pottery created by the people of the region.
After visiting the museum, walk around Manitou Springs, visit the shops and restaurants, or have fun at the Penny Arcade.

These seven waterfalls in Colorado are the only ones on National Geographic’s list of international waterfalls. This series of waterfalls is located in a 125-meter box wall canyon. As you climb the 224 steps to the hiking trails, you’ll see valleys, unusual rock formations, and lush meadows. Seven Falls was created by South Cheyenne Creek, one of Colorado Springs’ main water sources.
When you reach the top of the trail, you get a nice view of the beautiful landscape. A gift shop, restaurant, and two sets of stairs lead to a wonderful place known as the Eagle’s Nest. There are benches and viewpoints along the trail where you can rest and enjoy the view.
Standing 956 feet above the roaring Arkansas River is one of the largest historic bridges known as “America’s Bridge” built in 1929. Until 2001, the Royal Gorge Bridge was the tallest bridge in the world. It was also the tallest suspension bridge in the world until 2003.
Royal Canyon, 1,250 feet deep and more than six miles long, is affectionately known as the “Grand Canyon of Arkansas.”

As you walk across the bridge, stop at various points and see if you can see the rafters of white water below. Look at the solid steel structure, about 18 meters wide, and notice that the wind does not move the bridge even an inch.
If you’re more adventurous, you can visit the South Rim and zipline over the Royal Gorge. Also, you can do the Royal Rush Skycoaster, free fall at 50 miles per hour. The most popular is the Royal Gorge Gondola, which spans the width of the massive canyon and rises 2,200 feet and 1,200 meters above the Arkansas River.
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park offers a variety of activities for all levels, as well as restaurants and exhibits that tell the history of the site’s construction. This is a must see place.
