Things To Do In Atlanta This Weekend For Family
Atlanta, Georgia is one of those cities I’ve always wanted to visit. I don’t know how I got the idea to go to Atlanta, but once it got into my head, I couldn’t shake it. In the fall of 2019, I finally decided to start planning a trip to the southeastern United States. Atlanta was one of the first places I thought to include in my trip. Over three years later, I spent a lot of time in Atlanta! Needless to say, I know the city well.

With so many things to do in Atlanta, including dining at great restaurants, visiting historic sites, attending world-class theater, and discovering small towns and beautiful neighborhoods, you’ll need a lot more than a long weekend in Atlanta to do all that. . This 3-day sightseeing tour of Atlanta will get you off to a great start, visiting the city’s best attractions, outdoor spaces, and historic sites.
If you only have 3 days in Atlanta, I think you should stay in downtown Atlanta, close to many of the city’s attractions, which I have included on the first day of the trip. While it can be good for a first date and there are some great hotels, I recommend staying in a different area. I wouldn’t say downtown is dangerous, but it’s not the best area to walk around, especially late at night. Unfortunately, some parts of the city center have a large number of homeless people.
Find a hotel in Midtown instead. Midtown, a shopping and arts district, is located in the middle of restaurants, sports venues and events on this tour. A walk to the city center takes from 30 to 60 minutes. Martha (public) transport is nearby, a taxi will not take long.
You will also find many great restaurants in Buckhead. It is in front of the mountain and is not convenient.

You will find many hotels near the ATL airport. Most of them are very beautiful, but at a very low price. Staying near the airport will put you in the south of the city and spend more time driving and/or using public transportation, but you can stay in a nice hotel for the price. It makes sense. Fairfield North Airport made for a great stay.
Atlanta is known for its spectacular streets. You would think that people would want to walk or use public transport. For some reason, not so much. Many neighborhoods are walkable (like the ones I included on Day 2 of the tour), but people often walk between them if they’re connected to the BeltLine. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the BeltLine and Piedmont Park will be packed, but in other areas like Midtown or downtown, you won’t see many people walking.
That doesn’t mean it’s not good, it just isn’t that common. Many times you have to drive under or cross an interstate or travel on busy roads. I’ve traveled all over the country and I don’t always like the parts that connect neighborhoods, but I love going through each area. Of course, Atlanta is full of beautiful places to walk. Downtown is my favorite area to walk, and Midtown is nicer, but lacks the charm or uniqueness of the other neighborhoods. Although I walk more during the day than most people, I hardly ever walk alone at night in the city.
MARTA in Atlanta is one of the largest public transportation systems in the United States. It is served by several bus lines, four metro lines and a tram that runs on a small circle in the city center. Tickets cost $2.50 per ride and offer up to four trips in one direction. There are also a variety of day passes and travel passes. Regardless of the type of ticket or pass you purchase, you must obtain a Breeze Card ($2, valid for 3 years) or an airline ticket ($1 single use).

One of the metro lines goes from the airport, which will save you a lot of money on the way to the airport. Using public transportation can also help you on the third day of your trip when you go to Buckhead.
If you only have three days in Atlanta, you can maximize your time by taking a taxi to several locations. A taxi can be useful if you’re traveling so far that it doesn’t make sense to walk, but not so far that you’re stuck in traffic. On the first day, you can take a taxi or MARTA Gold or Red to the Peachtree Center station.

Some places recommend buying tickets in advance. The days can be filled as you like, and pay attention to the opening days of museums and attractions.

Many of these attractions are included in the Atlanta CityPass. An adult season ticket currently costs $93.54. US and includes admission to the Georgia Aquarium ($46.82), World of Coca-Cola ($20.69) and Zoo Atlanta ($28.54). Passing is worth it after doing these three things, but there’s more! You also get free admission to two of three museums of your choice: the National Center for Civil and Human Rights ($21.69), the College Football Hall of Fame ($30.25) and/or the Fernbank Museum of Natural History ($26.95).
CityPass is valid for 9 consecutive days and will really save you money. I’m so glad I bought it on my first visit to Atlanta.
Start your day early at the World of Coca-Cola. Sometimes attractions can be off the mark so I don’t know what to expect before I go. After the visit, I realized that the world of Coca-Cola is a little bit of everything that I like. It’s part art museum, factory, theater, movie theater, reenactment, and more!
When they arrive, they are waiting for you with a small can of Coke. Then continue with a short presentation followed by a short film about Coca-Cola and happiness. I don’t know why, but by the end of the movie I was bawling my eyes out! I think that’s why Coca-Cola is so good at advertising.
Best Things To Do With Kids In Atlanta
After the show, you can attend the other shows on your own and in any order you choose. The Vault exhibition not only allows you to see the vaults where secret recipes are stored, but you can also learn about the history of wine and who made it. At the bottling plant, you can walk around the bottling plant to see all the stages of the process.
One of the most popular parts is the Tasting Room, where you can try more than 100 different wines of the company. What I love is that you don’t have to ask for samples or have someone take care of you. If you want, you can try any of them. Very tasty, because they have continental drinks. Dare to try Beverly! I don’t drink soda so after 15 or so drinks my stomach felt a little weird! (Complaints are still available, but personal services are temporarily unavailable.)
If you have room left in your stomach after all the soda, eat some lunch. With the Atlanta Breakfast Club right around the corner, you’ll want to get your name in early, especially on the weekends. Stop by the restaurant before heading to World of Coca-Cola or add your name to Yelp’s online waiting list. I waited hours and hours for my Sunday lunch. The process is a little slow, but the food is delicious. It serves some of the best chicken and waffles in Atlanta!
Alternatively, you can walk a few blocks to Gus’ Fried Chicken. You want to order fried chicken here. Finger licking good! Side dish with chess cake is very tasty
