Things To Do In Aspen In September – And if you’re a local, it’s a great time to relax after a busy summer and really enjoy some of the perks of living here. At the end of August, the classic food and wine are long gone, the Aspen Institute’s main events are over, and the Aspen Music Festival shows are over, but that doesn’t mean the fun of winter is over. .
Of course, we could easily add to this list, but here are 5 fun things to do in Aspen in September – edited for 2022.
Things To Do In Aspen In September
Check out the Snowmass Balloon Festival (September 16-18) just a few miles down the road in Snowmass Village. This annual balloon raffle features beautiful balloons that coordinate and compete in multiple competitions, usually on display for anyone who cares to watch.

These competitions include a competition to see who can fly the farthest across the Roaring Fork Valley in a given time and a competition to see who can maneuver around ground targets and hit them with sacks. The weighted one is more accurate and is a “balloon”. Dance” in which pairs of balloons compete to see which pair can hold the flag ribbon floating between them.
The hot air balloon festival, now in its 47th year, will return to regular activities after several long-distance community events over the past two years. This year, spectators are invited to drive, walk, bike or simply stroll to see the sights as the balloons fly!
At the end of September, Mother Nature puts on a show worth enjoying with autumn colors. This spectacular explosion of red, orange and yellow leaves on the hillsides and in the city is not to be missed and is truly one of the best places to be in September in Aspen. To see this majestic view in its full glory, we recommend taking Independence Pass, Castle Creek Road to Ashcroft, Maroon Creek Road to Maroon Bells, or Owl Creek Road between Aspen and Snowmass.

Independence Pass is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the US, if not the world. Plus, there are plenty of daily activities, serene lakes, hiking trails, and places to explore. Stop to swim in the Devil’s Punchbowl and even jump into the pool at the base of the falls! Only after that we highly recommend wandering around the caves. These amazing natural ice caves are a wonder in themselves and a great place to relax by the river! If you’re feeling extra active, try the Grizzly Lake hike, probably our favorite lake hike in Aspen. Then, at the top of the pass, check out the Continental Divide.

Check out some of Colorado’s best bluegrass musicians for the rest of the summer. Every Sunday through the end of September, Aspen Snowmass features bluegrass bands atop Aspen Mountain. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday night with great views, food, drinks and live music. If you have already purchased a tour ticket, the ticket is free.
You can also enjoy views of the Aspen Mountains with other great experiences. At the end of September, Aspen Shakti hosts mountaintop yoga several times a week. Relax your mind and body in a surreal setting overlooking the Elk Mountain Range. Afterwards, treat yourself to lunch at The Sundeck. Great food and gorgeous views are available from anywhere in the restaurant.

ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies) is dedicated to the conservation, research and public education of Aspen’s surrounding ecosystems.
For over 45 years, ACES has been providing tours, hikes and nature education in Aspen. They have daily and weekly activities ranging from group hikes to farm tours and even yoga! Great Tour – Explore the endless beauty of the White River National Forest while learning from our local guides and naturalists. One of our favorite things to do is bird watching in the Northstar Conservation Area.
Given that Snowmass is the largest ski mountain, it makes sense that it would be an adventurous summer destination. The Lost Forest is hidden among the trees at Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain.

Lost Forest includes miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through the mountain. Stroll along one of the many creeks or even stop and go tennis fishing. Explore your wild side on a tree-lined trail with obstacles and climbing walls. You can even drive through the trees on the mountain coast. Check out last week’s Aspen Saturday Farmers Market! This year, the market will run through October 9, stopping just before Aspen’s fall season. Open since 1998, the Farmers Market runs along Hyman and Hopkins streets in downtown Aspen and is a great way to start any Saturday.
The Saturday Market is open from 8:30am to 2:00pm with a great selection of Colorado fresh produce, local artisan goods and food trucks! The market welcomes vendors from all over the Roaring Fork Valley – more information about the event and its vendors can be found here.
