Things To Do In Keystone Colorado In Winter

Things To Do In Keystone Colorado In Winter – Keystone Resort, Colorado offers great skiing and other winter fun: tubing, ice skating, fine dining and more. We have just returned from 5 days there and had a great time. Of course the conditions couldn’t have been better at 9 inches on day one followed by a great bluebird day. We were always amazed at the sights we saw at the Summit House.

If you’re heading to Keystone Resort this season, I’ve put together a few tips to make your trip even better. If you’re not planning a visit, this list might convince you. Although we took an adult vacation, the Keystone Resort is also perfect for families. Since the registration deadline is not until the beginning of April, there is still enough time to plan a trip. maybe spring break?

When to go? Plan your trip so that you spend as many days of the week as possible at the Keystone Resort. Since the resort itself is close to Denver, the slopes get quite busy on the weekends. We had planned to get up and ski the Saturday before we left, but didn’t get as many miles as we thought due to the queues at the lifts. That was Saturday the 10th on the Montezuma Express.

Best Places To Visit In Colorado In The Winter

Book your stay at the resort – There are many incentives to book your stay through Keystone Resort instead of online. With a stay of 2 nights or more, all children up to the age of 12 can ski for free. all children in your group, not just one person. Adult! When you push your kids out the door every day, you relieve them because you PAYED for their ski pass. And you can go up the mountain on night skis for free on the evening of your arrival. You can also pick up your ski rental anytime after 3:00 p.m. the day before the rental (basically you get it for free for half a day and you can ski all night). Resort guests also get free ice skates and some fun incentives.

Use the Epic Mix App – Download the Epic Mix App to your smartphone and open a free account with your ski pass number. This app is applicable to all Vail Resorts and you can create customized plans for your day based on your skiing level and planned skiing time. I wish we had played with it more BEFORE hitting the mountain. The first blue we tried was Mozart, which appears to be a really robust blue. If we were to use the app, it would take us to a softer blues to begin the journey.

EpicMix also tracks your elevation gain and collects “hooks” based on your daily activity, making it fun to compare with your friends. It also provides trail maps, shows you where to get food, and includes any photos you take with the resort’s photographers. It’s a great app and I recommend playing around with it before your trip to get the most out of it.

Plan for busy days. If a weekend is unavoidable, get up early and ride the River Run Gondola at 8:15am. They start loading at 8:30 am. We never had to wait until Friday and Saturday to ride this lift. As this is the main elevator to the top, it gets busy here.

Once you’re up the mountain, stay and ski. After Mozart we were afraid to try the blues there until we got back to our boat. There was no waiting for the lifts and the slopes were great as hardly anyone was out. We didn’t get a chance to try the outback runs but a local said they were great.

Take a ski lesson. I’ve only been skiing for 3 years and I’m doing pretty well in the blue but I wanted to feel more confident so I decided to take a ski lesson on my first day. It was the best decision I could have made. I spent 2 and a half hours with Stephen at Keystone Ski & Ride School and with 5-6 tips he changed my entire ski trip. It has given me a lot more confidence to ski which has made skiing in blue even more fun. I was signed up for the group class, but since it was a Wednesday afternoon, the private class ended and I was able to take private classes with her. I was very impressed with how quickly he was able to assess my skills and point out a few tweaks that made all the difference.

You are never too old (or too good) for a ski course. I really encourage everyone to tackle it at the very beginning of their journey. I promise you it’s worth it.

Dress for the cold. It was cold on the first day of skiing. It snowed all day and we were dressed neatly, which was good. But although it was over 40°C in the next few days and the sun was shining, I felt cold. I was still skiing with my neck, NorthFace liner and two gloves. There are no lockers upstairs. So pack your ski jacket carefully. it is better to throw it away than to suffer without it.

Pack a lunch and a water bottle/bladder. Dinner is served at the top of the mountain, but I did see a few families sitting at some picnic tables making sandwiches. The view was spectacular for a picnic. Or plan a trip to Labonte’s Smokehouse BBQ; They have plenty of tables and chairs to sit in the sun and there are live bands during spring break. There are also plenty of opportunities to fill up your own water bottles/bladders. If you don’t, you end up paying for a refill jar.

Try night skiing. One evening we tried night skiing but decided it wasn’t for us. Although we could see the slopes we were extremely nervous and couldn’t relax. A lot of snowboarders flew past us (those daredevils) and we ran and said, “We tried.” If you plan to ski at night, don’t ski a whole day before or your legs will get tired. And try to get an early start to avoid the line at the River Run Gondola. After 6pm it’s the only lift going up so it tends to get very busy.

Don’t miss Cookie Hour. Grab a hot cookie at the Ice Rink at River Run Village every day at 4:00 p.m. It’s right after the Kidtopia parade on Saturday.

Make dinner reservations. Keystone offers great restaurants. I encourage you to enjoy a good meal when you visit. We enjoyed a romantic 4-course meal at Ski Tip Lodge (North America’s oldest ski lodge), a fun fondue and DIY night at Der Fondue Chessel, and a fancy lunch at Aspenglow Stube while we were there. All meals were memorable in their own way. pending reviews.

Try other winter activities that Keystone Resort offers. I went skiing but I was so glad we had other activities planned for the afternoon where we could not only rest our feet but also try new winter experiences. Adventure Point offers plenty of inflatables for all ages; You have a full hour to walk up and down as much as you can. Be sure to let the guides show you around.

We also went on the snowmobile to the top of the mountain which was awesome. We climbed to the top of the Independence Bowl (12,500 feet) and the view was breathtaking. It was so much fun seeing more of the mountain. And I enjoyed speaking to Snow White’s guide/driver and hearing about his entertaining work.

Take a picture at the start of Schoolmarm. On a clear day, be sure to stop to snap a photo with the Keystone Resort photographers. The view is breathtaking and the mountains in the background are a beautiful reminder of your trip.
