A few weeks ago, Kevin and I spent the weekend in Philadelphia to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful time in this fun city. Philadelphia is fascinating – it’s history is so beautiful. It almost feels like going back in time, or traveling across the ocean and vacationing in a romantic European city with all its historic buildings, architecture and streets.

Where else can you walk America’s oldest road? Or send a letter from the first post office in the United States? I recommend everyone to visit Philly at least once. It is especially good for children to learn about the history of the nation and the Founding Fathers.
Philadelphia Festivals And Events: Your 2023 Guide
If you’re wondering what to do in Philadelphia, I’ve researched the most popular things to do in Philadelphia and compiled them into a handy guide. Here are the best things to do in Philadelphia;
Entry to the Liberty Bell is free and opens daily at 9am. You don’t need a ticket, and if you arrive at 9am. Or just a few minutes early, you can be the first and see the Liberty Bell without the crowds or waiting in line.
Opposite the Liberty Bell is Liberty Hall, where the Liberty Bell once hung and where Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Hancock, to name a few, wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence.
Entrance to Liberty Hall is free, but a ticket is required. A free ticket can be obtained at the Liberty Visitor Center near the Liberty Bell. The Visitor Center opens daily at 8:30 am. So buy a ticket before or after visiting the Liberty Bell and then head to Independence Hall.

The iconic statue of LOVE was a symbol of Philadelphia that was installed in Philadelphia’s Love Park in 1976. Taking a photo in front of a love sign is one of the most iconic things to do in Philadelphia!
If you’re a rock fan, you know this scene! The Philadelphia Museum of Art (aka “Rocky Steps”) is where Rocky Balboa ran down the now famous 72 stone steps.
It was seen from above! Under the stairs to the right you will find a rocky statue. Running the Rocky Steps was definitely on Kevin’s “things to do in Philly” list.
The city of Philadelphia is the largest municipal building in the United States. It is located next to the Love Sculpture and Reading Terminal Market. There is a tower and a viewing platform inside, but if you don’t go in, it’s definitely worth a stop and a look.
Water Activities Around Philadelphia To Beat The Summer Heat
The Betsy Ross House is the landmark of Philadelphia where seamstress and flag maker Betsy Ross lived when the first American flag was sewn.
At first we planned to just walk around and look around outside, but for a small fee you can go inside and see what the house looked like in the 18th century. It was really cool to see inside. Such small steps!
If you’re looking for something to do in Philly, I recommend walking this coffin street.
Although he was not born here, at the age of 17 Benjamin Franklin fled to Philadelphia to start a new life, and lived here for the rest of his life until his death in 1790.
How To Take The Ultimate Vacation In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
You can see where Ben and his wife Deborah are buried in Christ Church Cemetery in Philadelphia. There is a small fee to enter the cemetery, but you can view the monuments from outside. We didn’t go in, and the pictures were taken from the outside. You can also put pennies in the grave.
You can only visit the first office in the United States in Philadelphia. The postal workers here wear colonial-style clothing and use pen and ink to write, a clear representation of colonial past life. People come here to send letters, such as letters sent by hand from this office with a unique postmark. Be sure to send a postcard from here as a souvenir of your trip! One of the fun things to do in Philadelphia is to get your wedding invitations in the mail from this office!
Just west of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you’ll find a row of 15 houses built in the 19th century that housed various boating and social clubs along the Schuylkill River. If you’ve been wanting to do something in Philly, this place is the perfect afternoon getaway!
A 40-foot-long Friendship Bridge stands at the entrance to Philadelphia’s Chinatown. This international neighborhood has unique shops and the best Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Thai food in town!

Another course of the trip was visiting the Magic Gardens in Philadelphia. This is one of our favorite things to do in Philly!
The man behind the plates is Isaiah Zager, a local artist who started Philadelphia’s infamous South Street in the 1960s and never stopped.
There is a small fee to enter the gardens, but you can see many of them from outside, and even the decorated walls around the gardens!
South Street is one of Philadelphia’s most eclectic and vibrant neighborhoods. Known as Philadelphia’s most daring street, South Street is a melting pot of groups and cultures. It has its own personality and charm with over 300 different shops and over 60 restaurants, cafes and bars.

South Street is perfect for people watching – always buzzing with visitors and hip locals, whether you visit on a Tuesday afternoon or on a Friday night!
One of our favorite things to do in Philly is walk across the Ben Franklin Bridge at sunset.
On one side of the Philadelphia bridge, on the other Nova Caesarea. We took the book across the bridge to New Jersey and headed back to Philly to work up an appetite for dinner. Stunning views of the river and the Philadelphia skyline at sunset.
This is one of my favorite things to do in Philly! The audio tour lasts about 45 minutes and is narrated by Steve Buscemi.

We loved walking everywhere we could around Philly, but sometimes you just need a drink. Thank God for Uber! Have you heard of Uber? Your private car service is cheaper than a taxi. All you have to do is download the Uber app and it will show you where the drivers are closest to you and tell you how long it will take for the car to arrive.
Uber is available in most cities around the world and can usually be reached in less than 5 minutes by car. Even your destination through the app so you don’t have to worry about your driver not speaking English or where to pick you up.
No need to wait outside for a taxi in the cold, heat, or rain – the app sends you a notification when the driver is coming and another when he arrives.
