When Glenn Kurtz discovers a fragment of 16mm film taken by his grandfather during a trip to Poland in 1938, he discovers a world of hidden stories captured in the smiling faces of members of the Jewish community in Nasielsk, Poland. A year later, the same townspeople were deported and ended up in the Treblinka concentration camp. Kurtz turned the documentary footage into a book, which shaped the lives of the people shown in each frame, and led the director Bianca Stigter to follow in his footsteps.
