Places To Visit In Us During Winter – Do you embrace winter when you travel or try to avoid freezing temperatures as much as possible? I feel like winter gets a bad rap. Sure, it’s cold, but the freshly paved paths and snow-capped mountains are gorgeous. If you dress appropriately and have enough snow to play in, you’ll have a great time.

Places To Visit In Us During Winter
With over 100 inches of light snow each winter, I was forced to add to my new home in Marquette, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With many hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails, it is also a playground for outdoor enthusiasts in the winter. Since the nights are long and dark, there’s a good chance you’ll even see the Northern Lights. There are trails literally all over town, one of our favorite places to walk the dogs is Lake Harlow (pictured). If you want to try fat biking, Marquette has over 60 miles of groomed trails. As for skiing, there are miles of cross-country trails around town, as well as downhill trails.

Once you’ve had your fill, head downtown and enjoy the old campus with its variety of restaurants, shops, bars and more. Grab a cold beer at Blackrocks Brewery and cozy up in one of their igloos or grab a bite to eat at local favourite, the Portside Inn. They are known for large portions, great sandwiches, pizza, and all Michigan beers on tap. We love the giant schatta, a flat Italian sandwich on homemade bread; Enough for two. Stay at the historic Landmark Inn in the heart of the city, with a rooftop pub and beautiful views of the city and lake.
Whitefish, Montana is one of the best winter destinations you can visit in the United States. Whitefish is not just for skiers, but if you are a skier, Whitefish Mountain Resort is Montana’s second largest and world-class ski resort. There are 105 ski runs suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
You don’t need to be an expert on the slopes to enjoy Whitefish. For non-skiers, there are plenty of other outdoor adventures such as guided snowshoe hikes in Glacier National Park to see winter wildlife, dog sledding day trips, or even biking fat or horse riding sliding in the forest. .
Foodies will also enjoy the white fish, and the dishes prepared by the James Beard Award-winning chef at Cafe Kandahar are not to be missed. The chef’s 11-course wine pairing menu is the stuff of legend and every dish is exquisite.
Best Snowy U.s. Destinations To Visit This Winter
When it comes to great winter destinations, it doesn’t get much better than Telluride, Colorado. This small mountain town is a true gold mining town nestled in a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains.
Unlike many ski resorts in the United States, Telluride was not built as a ski resort. This small town was discovered in 1878 when miners found gold and has been around ever since. The Telluride Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to world-class skiing, Telluride offers its visitors snowmobiling, snowshoeing, sledding, dog sledding, ice climbing and sledding.
Head to the ice rink at the Madeleine Hotel in the Mountain Village for some family fun. Afterwards, grab a hot chocolate on Black Iron Kitchen’s outdoor patio and people watch by the fire pit. Don’t forget to visit Dylan’s Candy Bar for some old-fashioned candy.

In Telluride’s historic district, Brown Dog Pizza is a must for any visitor. And a visit to the historic New Sheridan hotel is worth a drink and dinner at the Chop House. The bar at the new Sheridan is a former Butch Cassidy hangout that will delight any Old West historian. We have been to Telluride 4 times and keep coming back!

Northern Michigan is one of the best winter destinations in America. There are many beautiful cities to visit and enjoy nature, but my favorite is Traverse City. Traverse City is a popular shopping destination in the Greater Traverse Bay area. The local streets are lined with blocks of cute shops and delicious cafes. In the summer, the city is famous for Michigan cherries – about 3/4 of America’s cherries are grown in Michigan!
However, in winter, people come here to spend time in the fresh air and ride the streets on a sleigh. Or enter the old and historic State Cinema to warm up. Then one of my favorite things to do is go to a craft brewery – Michigan makes great beer!

Winter in Alaska comes quickly and lasts a long time. Nowhere is this more true than in Fairbanks, Alaska. Fairbanks is Alaska’s third largest city, located 200 miles below the Arctic Circle. With nearly 22 hours of darkness in the dead of winter, this small town might not be the most inviting place. But Fairbanks is a special winter destination. Fairbanks’ location makes it a great base for exploring northern Alaska in the winter. You have many options, such as a snow tour (and maybe see a moose roaming the trail), cross-country skiing, or ice fishing in the winter. Exploring the Museum of the North is a great way to learn more about Alaskan culture and history. The true highlight of Fairbanks is the Northern Lights. With that much darkness, you have plenty of dark hours to see the northern lights.
If you’re up for a real adventure, take a tour of the famous Ice Road and visit the small town of Codfoot for an even better view of the Northern Lights and a chance to stand on the frozen Yukon River. After cooling off, head to the eco-friendly Chena Hot Springs Resort to cool off before heading home.
Just an hour north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the small village of Kohler, Wisconsin, home to Kohler’s national headquarters. Thanks to the Kohler company, Kohler has turned into a cozy winter resort.
U.s. Winter Outlook: Warmer, Drier South With Ongoing La Nina
Kohler transformed his original guest house for foreign workers into The American Club Resort, a historic boutique hotel with several restaurants, a cozy lounge with a library and bar, and a convertible greenhouse-café. Spend your days snowshoeing on the private trails, bowling in the backyard, or relaxing at the award-winning Kohler Aquatic Spa. If you want to start planning your next vacation, the entire resort will be covered in holiday decorations in December. If you’re looking for a romantic Midwest getaway for Valentine’s Day, this is the place.
You can even visit their design center and create the kitchen and bathroom of your dreams. If that’s not in your budget, take a look at Kohler’s unique display over the years and see incredible kitchen and bath designs from some of the world’s leading designers for inspiration.
Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is one of the best winter destinations in the United States. The lake is surrounded by excellent ski resorts, and you can take a break from several world-class pistes to enjoy stunning views of the lake’s blue water. One of Lake Tahoe’s most famous ski resorts, Squaw Valley even hosted the Olympic Games in 1960. Skiers and snowboarders can tackle some of the tracks where the competition took place or visit the sports museum to take a break from the cold. Because ski resorts can get 500 inches of snow every winter – more than 40 feet! – The chances of fresh powder are high and the ski season can be extended in May to extend the winter.
Even if you are not into skiing and snowboarding, you can still experience the après-ski atmosphere in the many restaurants and bars located near the bases of resorts such as Heavenly and Squaw. You can also take a scenic drive along the lake to enjoy the contrast of the white snow against the bright blue water of Lake Tahoe. Make sure you have skid chains as they are often needed in snowy conditions.
