Spectacular Scenic Drives In Colorado
True beauty always catches the eye and while there is much to see in Colorado, we have compiled a list of dozens of beautiful places in Colorado.
I want to start by mentioning one of the most photographed and iconic areas of Colorado: Maroon Bells. Located in the White River National Forest near Aspen, the Maroon Bells are mountains surrounded by rolling hills, nearby mountains and clear alpine waters.
Reservations are required to visit Maroon Bells. Please use the parking lot near Maroon Lake, the access point to the viewpoint. During the peak tourist season, many tourists book transfers from the city. For more information on shipping and Maroon Bells reservations, please visit aspenchamber.org.
If you want to extend your visit overnight, the Maroon Bells Scenic Area is a great entry point for camping in the Maroon Bells Snowmass Nature Reserve and the vast White River National Forest. Near Maroon Lake, the Forest Service maintains the East Maroon Portal as well as several picnic areas and campgrounds along Maroon Creek Road.
What Vail Summer 2022 Looks Like
It’s hard to call a 60-foot hole in the ground a “hidden gem,” but Royal Gorge is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado, and many first-time visitors may not see it. Located by the Arkansas River in what is now Fremont County, Royal Gorge is a spectacular sight about an hour from Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
Interested visitors should visit Kings Gorge Park and Bridge, which is open seven days a week. An admission fee is required to walk across the 80-foot-long suspension bridge that sits more than 1,000 feet above the canyon floor. Visitors can enjoy food and drink, some trips (such as ziplining across the canyon) and other activities for an additional purchase.
If you are afraid of heights, or simply want to experience wonders from a different perspective, you can also admire the beauty of the Royal Gorge from the train. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad carried food and supplies along the Arkansas River at the foot of the Great Walls.
While it’s a deep river theme, travel about 280 miles due west to Gunnison’s Black Canyon in Montrose County, Western Colorado. At nearly twice the height of Royal Gorge, Gunnison’s Black Canyon is made up of black rock faces that rise 2,250 feet above the water below.

Along with Maroon Lake and Bear Lake (in Rocky Mountain National Park), Chicken Lake near Glenwood Springs is one of the most photographed bodies of water in Colorado. At the end of a 1.9-mile trail, Hanging Lake is worth a visit, with several waterfalls plunging into the beautiful turquoise water.

Head downtown to explore Denver Central Market, Coors Field, Larimer Square, and other highlights. Everyone loves great mountain views, but Denver has many rooftop patios, parks, and other places to watch the sun set over the Rocky Mountains.
If you’re more interested in shopping than sightseeing, look no further than Denver’s historic 16th Street Mall, a grand boulevard lined with shops and restaurants. There is a free shuttle for guests to the 16th Street Mall.
