Hostels And Parties In Colorado
If the first thing you think of when you hear the word “hostel” is a dimly lit room with thick mattresses in a dingy building downtown, you’ve never lived in Colorado.
Luxury Hotels With Bunk Beds Are Seriously Trending, Here’s Why
Here’s a little-known secret about many of our prized (read: expensive) ski resorts: they’re home to some of the best, most comfortable hostels you’ll find. At least six new ones have been opened. “I think any city that has a hostel does well, and [as a traveler] I was looking for a hostel,” says Lori Roberts, executive director of the Salida Chamber of Commerce. There are now two hostels in town – Simple Lodge and Hostel and the new Salida Hostel – and European travelers often ask about them. “Hey, where are you from?” You’re almost invited to speak as part of the culture, and I think that’s the success of these things: you meet people from all over the world.”
Karen Karnutta, who opened Salida Hostel in February 2016, said every aspect of the house, down to the way the chairs are turned, is designed to encourage conversation. There are no televisions in the building and they don’t play music. But there is plenty of room to interact with passengers.
“We have a lot of people who could afford the best place in town, but they stay here [because of the community],” Carnutta says.

“It’s because of the backpacker lifestyle,” says Batchelor, who believes more hostels are on the way. “I’d rather camp out in a hotel room by myself.”
