Fun Things To Do In Atlanta For May 2023
After living in Miami for the past five years, we finally visited the neighboring state of Georgia, specifically Atlanta. We went through the city on a four week trip from Miami to Orlando, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg, Franklin, Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. Here are our favorite things to do in Atlanta with kids.
If you’re visiting Atlanta with kids and want to save money, you should consider purchasing a CityPASS card. We have used them before on trips to Chicago and NYC and it has saved us a lot of money. You can buy a pass online here and it includes admission to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and three of these attractions: Zoo Atlanta, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, College Football Hall of Fame, National Civic Center. and Human Rights or CNN Studio Tours.
If you’re short on time or want to make the most of it, know that the Coca Cola Factory, Georgia Aquarium, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, CNN Studios, and the College Football Hall of Fame are all nearby. . The Atlanta Zoo is ten minutes away, and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History is about twenty minutes from the zoo and other attractions. If you are using CityPASS for the first time, you have 30 days to visit the attractions.
If you don’t drink carbonated drinks, we don’t, it’s worth a visit to the Coca Cola factory. It was fun learning about the history of the company and seeing the original bottles and machinery. You can learn about the process of making it, taste Coca Cola from around the world (there are many flavors), meet Coca Cola’s polar bear and more. Three Days In Atlanta Itinerary Fun Things To Do In Downtown Atlanta Georgia
As a graduate of the University of Florida, I am a huge fan of college football. But even if you are not interested in football, it is exciting and fun. Inside there is a playground suitable for both adults and children. With over 775 schools represented, you’re sure to find something that interests you. My kids loved visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium at the California Aquarium so I knew they would love the Georgia Aquarium. Round-trip tickets can be purchased here. We all loved it! I was so glad we had the Atlanta CityPass because the aquarium is not cheap! Here you can see beluga whales, dolphins and many other marine animals. We especially liked the part of the aquarium where you stand on a moving walkway and walk through the tank with the animals on the side and above!
While the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis is of most interest, I was impressed by the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. The first exposure when entering is disappointing so be prepared but I went with my 4 and 6 year olds and they learned a lot so don’t think you can’t meet with younger kids. The museum not only tells about the past, but the entire exhibition is dedicated to the current issues of civil and human rights. Be sure to stop by the gift shop for some great books!
Zoo Atlanta is one of the oldest zoos in the country. It is a very good zoo which is divided into continents like African Savannah and Asia. My daughters favorite part of the day was feeding the giraffes (as she did on our trip to Kenya). Feeding is only available at certain times of the day, so check the schedule to make sure you arrive with enough time to line up before the end of feeding. The giraffes are free to roam and don’t always come to feed, so sometimes there may be a 15-30 minute break before the giraffes come looking for salad. Fun Things To Do In Atlanta For Fall Include These 7 Must Visits
In other parts of the park, you will find different species of monkeys, from gorillas to orangutans. There is an amphibian section with boa constrictors, blue, yellow and red eyed frogs and more. Personally, I had the most fun watching the twin pandas, I had never seen a panda before.
There is a children’s section on the way out which is worth making time for if you have children aged 8-10 and younger. Here you can get up close to goats and alpacas at the petting zoo, take a train through the Rainbow Tunnel, ride the fun-go-round, play on the playground or cool off in the paddling pool. There is also a zip line for those tall ones.
If you didn’t know that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Was born in Atlanta, so now you know. His birthplace is protected by the National Park Service, and they offer free ranger-led tours every year except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The tour lasts about 30 minutes. This is a walking tour through the Martin Luther King Historic District that we also considered.
Dr. located at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Right next to Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthplace. where he preached his first sermon in 1947. He also gave many speeches here. The church can be visited with a guide from 10:00 to 17:00.
Fun Things To Do In Atlanta At Night (for 2023)
Freedom Hall is a place where Dr. Reminiscences of King and the Civil Rights Movement are presented. You can see his Bible, clergy robes, handwritten sermons, and his room key at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, where he was murdered. Adjacent to Freedom Hall is the reflecting pool where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King are both buried here.
Added to the National Historic Site in 2004, it honors some of the amazing people who contributed to the Civil Rights Movement.
We visited our first botanical gardens on a trip to Rio de Janeiro, then again in Naples, and now in Atlanta. It’s safe to say we’re in love with them. Each one is unique, and the Atlanta Botanic Garden has two things that set it apart from the rest: the Earth Goddess Show and the garden lighting in winter.
The local kindergarten is also excellent. We spent at least an hour here watching my daughter build her house, play music, watch the bees make honey. If you are there in the summer, the kids can also use the paddling pool. I also loved kindergarten
