A quick drive from Cincinnati along I-75 North, our final destination, Boyne Mountain Resort, is about 7 hours.

Gaylord is located an hour south of Mackinaw City on I-75N and all the buildings in town must follow the alpine theme in their design..even Walmart!

Diana’s Delights is a restaurant that serves amazing breakfast and lunch. My favorites are the Croissant French Toast and the Baked Chicken Salad with Fruit.

Other notable restaurants in Gaylord include Big Buck Brewery for beer cheese soup and local brews, and Sugar Bowl Restaurant, known for its raspberry pie.

Children will enjoy watching up to 70 elk at the 105-acre Elk Park. The Elk Viewing Area is a short drive from downtown Gaylord.

There are many great stores in town, my favorite is Old Spud Warehouse, which offers one-of-a-kind gifts. I might buy a gift for myself and consider it for my children. How beautiful they are!

Don’t forget to pick up the daily schedule at the front desk upon check-in. The alpine theme throughout the property creates a wonderful holiday atmosphere.

Boyne Mountain was the perfect place to reunite and have fun with their relatives who live 3 hours away from the resort.

During our visit, we climbed a scenic chairlift to the top of the hill for a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

Best Of Mackinac Island — Lake Huron, Michigan

Boyne has year-round heated indoor/outdoor pools. Pools are usually 10 degrees cooler than a hot tub, meaning you won’t hesitate to swim with your kids if they ask.

Avalanche Bay Indoor Water Park is the largest indoor water park and resort in Michigan. There is an additional fee for the indoor water park, but it’s worth it!

Water slides and playgrounds appeal to all adventure levels and ages. The water park sells food and does not allow outside food or drinks. There is a lazy river and lots of seating if you want to relax.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, check out “The Big Couloir”. This water slide starts from the launch capsule at a 10° angle from vertical, the lowest in the industry, where a trap door takes you down a narrow tunnel that instantly accelerates riders up to 38 feet per second.

Upper Peninsula Of Michigan Houses

During our visit, we took advantage of the free activities. With beautiful deck chairs and pools, we enjoyed lawn games, hay wagon rides, and sitting by the roaring fire.

For an additional fee you can enjoy golf, rental bicycles, zipline, horseback riding, paint, kayak, spa, and take a Segway tour.

Deer Lake property has Boyne Mountain Beach access to shops and many restaurants. You could easily stay there all weekend and never want to leave.

During our visit, we stayed in the Salzburg Suite, which sleeps 10 people. Main living area had kitchen fireplace, balcony, full bath, sleeper sofa. There were three bedrooms on the second floor.

The master had a king bed, the guest room had a queen bed, and the kids had 2 beds in the “castle room” sleeping 4. There was a den with a sink in the hallway and another full bath and vanity on the 2nd. Quality.

Our group of 10 had plenty of room to spread out and the kids loved the castle room.

A fully equipped kitchen in this unit makes it affordable for large families looking to save on food costs.

Petoskey is one of my favorite towns. I love the scenery as you enter the city. It takes about 25 minutes to drive from Boyne Mountain to Petoskey.

You can walk downtown, find some great shops, enjoy a meal at Stafford’s Berry Hotel with a view, or walk along the pier for another view of the bay.

Another great dining option from May to October is Legs Inn, known for its Polish cuisine and quirky decor.

We were there just in time to catch the most magical sunset. The atmosphere is relaxed with garage-style doors that open during nice weather and an indoor fireplace to cozy up, making it perfect for a date night or a night out with friends.

The menu has everything from specialty sandwiches to pastas to specialty dishes. This restaurant is located less than 15 minutes from Boyne Mountain and I highly recommend checking it out!

Boyne City is less than 15 minutes from the resort. Great shopping and restaurants in downtown and Lake Charlevoix is ​​within walking distance.

Red Mesa Grill is a great way to eat. This was one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in Northern Michigan. Their burritos are delicious with smoky refried beans!

Downtown Boyne is located a short distance from Lake Charlevoix. The waterfront has beautiful walkways and plenty of benches.

On our last day, we decided to drive to Mackinaw City. It’s about an hour’s drive from your destination, and it’s worth it if you’ve never seen the Mackinac Bridge before.

Mackinaw Crossings has many shops and restaurants and we highly encourage you to visit Scalawags Whitefish & Chips for locally sourced whitefish.

If you enjoy history, you’ll want to visit Missillimackinac Castle, where you can learn more about life in the 18th century.

The Mackinac Bridge is about an hour away from Boyne Mountain and is worth the effort to see the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere that connects Michigan’s Lower Peninsula with the Upper Peninsula.

There is a toll to cross the bridge. $4 each way if you are in a car. I recommend bringing cash or it will take you a long time to be near the cabin. Mackinac Island is just a short boat ride away, but we recommend setting aside a full day to make the most of your visit.

We tested the KIA Niro Hybrid on this trip and it got amazing gas mileage! This trip resulted in excellent gas mileage with excellent combined city/highway/46/40/43! There was plenty of room in the back seat for my kids and I loved plugging in my laptop to get work done while my husband drove. up north.

The northern part of the Lower Peninsula has everything you could ask for in autumn. One of the most beautiful places in all of Manistee County – Arcadia Overlook, also known as Inspiration Point, is where I made my first official stop in Manistee County. Head north to Manistee on M-22, past the town of Arcadia, and you’ll come to the most famous rock. It’s a hundred and twenty steps to the top, but eighty feet is enough to reach the view of the lake. Get there about half an hour before sunset to experience the full color change as the sun sinks into the horizon.

There are seven historic bridges in the area. Two of my favorites are the “Little Mac” Suspension Bridge and the Stronach Railway Bridge. Little Mac Suspension Bridge is part of the North Country Road but is close to the car park and a short walk to it. Stronach Railway Bridge was built in 1887 and is one of the oldest bridges still in use today.

Downtown Manistee is home to boutiques, restaurants and unique theaters. The Vogue-style Deco Theater is the crown jewel of Manistee’s River Street. My favorite place for breakfast and dinner is the Fillmore for its microbrew (beer and coffee), locally sourced food, and modern atmosphere.
