A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to visit Winter Park Resort and Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Colorado. Greg and I have been wanting to take a ski trip for years and it couldn’t have come at a better time for us! My family and I are very happy that we did it.

In this recap blog post, I will walk you through our trip on everything we did, where we stayed, what we ate, and everything else I can think of! We enjoyed our experience and hope it helps you if you are planning a trip to Winter Park. We spent the first two nights at Winter Park Resort and the third night at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, so we plan to talk about our trip together. division.
There are several transportation options to Winter Park Resort. The last thing we did was use Home James Transportation. We were picked up on the right and taken to Winter Park. It took two hours to walk. Since this was a shared shuttle, there were several places to pick up other passengers to the airport from Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Each ship had no more than 10-11 passengers. We had plenty of room to stretch out and our luggage was safely stored in the back of the van. If you don’t want to rent a car, it’s a great option to get you to and from Winter Park. We are glad that we did not rent a car because we are not experienced mountain drivers.
All accommodations at the resort are owned by the hotel. When you’re looking for accommodation, you’re not looking for different hotels in the area, you’re looking for accommodation on their website. There are many different options depending on your needs and price range. We stayed at Fraser Crossing/Founders Pointe. We enjoyed our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom guest house. It comes with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, fireplace, balcony and plenty of space to stretch out. The master bedroom had a king bedroom, the second bedroom had a queen and the living room had a den. It was perfect for our family of four, but you can sleep six in the room if you use the pull out bed in the living room. All apartments are close to everything, including the ski lift, restaurants and town. You can’t go wrong living with property.
One thing we learned while there – they have a free shuttle that takes you out of the house and into town with everything you need. If you want to go to a restaurant in town or a grocery store, we can take you there! We regret that if we had thought about it sooner, we would have made a trip to the grocery store for breakfast and a snack to sit in our kitchen.
Things To Do Summer
On our first day we were able to take a Snowcat ride through the mountains at Winter Park Resort. It was very interesting and important! You get to the gondola and then the Snowcat will take you to different routes and views on the mountain. It was more fun for me (and the girls) because I wouldn’t be skiing on this trip, but I had to test its qualities on the mountain and on the trail. Lots of great photo opportunities!
Ski rental was a breeze when we arrived on the first day. We filled out the papers, they put everyone in and we got on the road. The process took less than 30 minutes. We took a small cart and carried our things to our house. All hotels have ski lockers that make it easy to store all your gear.
If you have the chance, make sure to eat at Sunspot. Ride a gondola and eat on top of the mountain. Every day is so beautiful, and the sunset is so beautiful. We had a wonderful dinner the first night there. They offer a wide variety of flavors that the whole family will enjoy. I love surf and terrain!
Greg is the swimmer in our family, so he didn’t need lessons. He immediately got on the chair lift and had the time of his life. I’m not going to ski on this trip because I’ve never skied before and it’s probably not a good idea to start at 11 weeks pregnant.
Best Things To Do In Estes Park (in 2023)
Kennedy and Caroline signed up for half a day of private lessons and I’m glad they were able to do it. Caroline was whining and crying “Mommy, Mommy” for the first half, so I walked for about 30 minutes. When I came back, he gained more confidence and started to skate on his own! Kennedy was fast and fearless! This surprised me because he too has been a scaredy cat all his life. I was proud of both of them.
They all said they had a great time and wanted to ski again the next day. Andrea with Winter Park Ski + Ride School was patient and gave them the confidence they needed to go down the mountain themselves. They climbed a small hill on the “magic carpet” and practiced going down again. I have a feeling we will be skiers again!
I was really looking forward to the tube, especially since I was the only one not sliding. It did not disappoint! The tubing hill has a variety of routes, from fast to slow, and you can go down as many times as you want within an hour of buying a ticket. You can also choose a fast or slow channel and even go to a channel suitable for two people.
