I went to Breckenridge, Colorado for the weekend and it was an amazing winter destination. Plus, there’s a direct United Airlines flight from Austin to Denver, and then a new United Airlines bus from Denver to Breckenridge, so you don’t need to rent a car.
I was struck by the beauty of the town of Breckenridge. Many restaurants and shops are within walking distance, and the ski slopes are a short drive away. Breckenridge is a mountain town nestled between Colorado’s Ten Mile Mountains and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Originally a Victorian mining town, it has the largest National Historic District in the country with 249 historic buildings. Fun Things To Do Near Breckenridge Colorado
For this trip, I booked a United bus from Denver Airport to Breckenridge and did not rent a car. I also booked United Bus service after booking my United Airlines ticket. This is easy to add. Your checked baggage will be placed on the bus and waiting when you arrive in Denver. Also, the bus to Breckenridge is great without the stress of renting a car and driving two hours. In addition, there is Wi-Fi and toilets on board.

Breckenridge is a popular destination for swimming, but there are many other things to do in Breckenridge. Breckenridge is home to approximately 250 historic buildings and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the famous buildings here date back to the 80s, from Breckenridge’s settlement as a mining town in 1860 to the end of mining operations in 1942.
Breckenridge Ski Resort is the best place to go skiing in Breckenridge. With over 2,900 acres on five mountains, Breckenridge Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski resorts in all of Colorado. With over 200 shops and 80 restaurants on Main Street, it’s fun to walk and stroll down the street. The Breck Free Ride Trolley Bus is also available if you want to ride. Stop by the Welcome Center for a self-guided tour or one of the many tours offered by the Breckenridge Tourism Center.

To see the best of Breckenridge, you must ride the Breckconnect Gondola. It’s free. Gondolas travel from Breckenridge to Peaks 7 and 8 with beautiful mountain views.
My favorite winter experience is taking a shower surrounded by snow. We soaked in the outdoor hot tub and saw the Colorado mountains here at the Residence Inn by Marriott Breckenridge, but Breckenridge has several hot tubs.
Dog shooting starts in late November/early December. I really wanted to go dog sledding, but it wasn’t available in early November. But I have to come back.
Another way to explore Summit County is by bicycle. Check out the groomed trails at the Nordic Center or explore the snow and XC trails in the White River National Forest. Running on a fat bike is a great workout, even compared to XC skiing, and running fast on a fat bike allows you to explore more of the desert.
