After a free guided tour of the US Mint, your kids will be able to find out where money is made. The US Mint in Denver produces billions of coins each year. Find your way on this tour, perfect for children ages seven and up. Tickets for day trips go on sale at 7:00 AM, Mon-Thurs. Until tickets are “sold out”.
For a leisurely stroll, head to the 16th Street Mall, downtown Denver’s longest-running mall. A free tour of a candy factory that accepts babies and strollers?! Apply! Touring Hammond’s Candy Factory is educational and fun – don’t worry, you’ll leave plenty of samples at the end. The tour takes about 30 minutes (read: perfect for short attention spans) and you’ll show your kids that candy doesn’t just come from grocery store shelves. Plus, the tourist-friendly city of Springs is just an hour and a half south on I-25 (traffic/weather/construction), so it’s totally worth a memorable day trip from Denver. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite free activities in Colorado Springs to round out your vacation.
Most of these free activities in Denver are available year-round, with a few exceptions, such as snowshoeing. Most are within walking distance of downtown Denver or accessible by public transportation.
While some of these attractions are on the list, others are within a round trip from Denver. So get ready for adventure and mile high fun.
Crazy Fun Things To Do In Denver With Kids
With spectacular views of Denver and a reputation as one of the best concert venues in the world, Red Rocks Amphitheater is a true wonder of Mother Nature. Formed by two sandstone monoliths – Ship Rock and Creation Rock – the arena has welcomed some of the world’s biggest stars to its stage.
Best of all, when there isn’t a concert, exploring is free. Stand on a stage inspired by U2, The Blues Brothers, The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen and embrace your inner rock star or just take in the scenery created by the nature of the perfect theatre.
Around the arena you will often see people taking yoga classes or hiking or running uphill. There are several steps to climb to get to the Red Rock Plain, but we think it’s worth it for the amazing views.
