Free Things To Do In Reno This Weekend – Mostly known as a gambling city, Reno has a lot to offer. Most of Reno’s great outdoor and art spaces are free.
The Hunter Creek Trail is one of the most popular hikes, but there’s a good reason: there’s a waterfall at the end. The waterfall is hard to get to in the high desert, but it runs year-round and is a great end to the 5.2 kilometer hike.

The Reno Arts District and the Reno Riverwalk are located in the heart of downtown Reno. The area is close to great restaurants and bars, shopping areas and the Truckee River. Built in 1927, Idlewild is located west of the city on the Truckee River. The park has several picnic areas, some tennis courts, a bike path, some lakes and water features, and river access. There is a Lions Club Park for children with lots of fun equipment and a miniature train. The rose garden and public art are popular, as is the seasonal Idle Wild Pool.
Reno’s Midtown district is a great example of urban renewal. This once neglected part of Reno south of downtown has new life with a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and art galleries. Visit Junkie or Hello Yoga for great gifts, antiques and clothing, and The Melting Pot for unique clothing and hot men’s accessories.

From the Mountain Music Parlor where you can listen to great music and enjoy great restaurants, you can spend a whole day wandering around this artistic and charming part of town.
Although Reno doesn’t get much winter snow, the Mount Rose Summit area has some of the best snow sports in the area. Located on the Mount Rose Highway/Highway 431 on the way to North Lake Tahoe, this area is known for summer access to the Tahoe Rim Trail, as well as other great areas for skiing, snowboarding and skiing.

The Tahoe Pyramid Trail is a hiking and biking trail that has been completed from Lake Tahoe along the Truckee River through the city of Reno to Sparks on the way to Pyramid Lake in the Nevada desert. Along the way, the trail will drop more than 2,000 feet in 116 miles. Most of the trail is paved and some are dirt trails made by donations.

Tip: If you don’t have a bike, you can rent one from one of the various bike shops in the Reno area. They will also give you a road map.
Rancho San Rafael Park is Reno’s largest park with hundreds of acres of land that is home to a large dog park, playgrounds, an arboretum, exercise equipment, jogging trails and activity pools. special. The Arboretum is a beautiful place to walk among the trees and the landscape.
Tip: The biggest special event in San Rafael is the Giant Reno Balloon Race. Held in September, it is also completely free.

Tip: If you want to tube from further afield, head to Mayberry Park or Chrissy Coughlin Park. Mayberry Park Tube will take most of the day.
Generator is a great makerspace that welcomes artists, dreamers and people who take the day. Many locally made pieces are made here for the annual Burning Man event and you can see artists at work. The generator also offers art and science classes, equipment and tool rentals, books and magazines and access to local designers and makers. They have a metal workshop, a technology laboratory, a wood shop and even a sewing room.
Tip: There are lots of great generator firework designs and you can try old pieces as well as new ones. Summer is fast approaching. (Okay, maybe. Reno has been a bit of a mess lately.) But at least I can dream of warm summer days! I have four kids, I’m 1) looking for fun summer activities, and 2) trying not to break the bank. 1. Free children’s bag. This year, there are two Reno bowling alleys participating in the annual “Kids Bowl Free” program: Grand Sierra Resort Bowling Center and High Sierra Lanes. Registered children under the age of 15 can get two free games of bowling per day at participating locations during designated times. You have to rent shoes, but it’s a steal if your kids love bowling! Parents can also purchase a summer pass to play with their children all summer long!

2. Cinemark Dollar Movies. Although this summer’s schedule has not yet been released, these dollar movies at the theater are a fun experience for kids. The theater is full of children, so you shouldn’t stress too much if your child makes a little noise (but honestly, I’m always surprised how many theaters are full of children). And, it’s only $1 per person! However, if you plan to go every week, you can buy a pass for all 10 movies (one per week for 10 weeks) for just $5 per person! 3. Home Depot Kids Workshops. Once a month, many Home Depot locations host kids’ workshops where kids can get their hands dirty and make something! These are completely free, and usually on Saturday mornings. You can check project details and register your child online.
4. Deer Park Pool $2 Thursday. Hare Park and Sparks Pool is also offering its own discounted swim day. This year it’s a $2 Tuesday deal! This zero entry pool is suitable for children of all ages. I recommend arriving early, as they often fill up these days. See the Sparks Parks and Recreation Activities Guide for dates/times.
5. Shell’s Fit Kids Club. Shell offers one free sports class each month for children ages 4 to 12. June 10 is Fishing 101, July 8 is Hiking 101 and August 12 is Soccer 101. Each class is start at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All events are free. You can find a year-round flyer for this class on page 21 of the Sparks Parks and Recreation Summer Booklet.

6. Free fishing day. Head to Sparks Marina for Free Fishing Day on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every child registered gets free fishing rods and lunch – so not only will your child fish for free for the day (no license required), but they will go with their new fishing pole! 7. Nevada bugs and butterflies. This butterfly house and science center is a free public education resource. Their spring program isn’t over yet, so keep your eyes on their website so you can get there with your kids!
8. Discovery Museum. While it’s not a cheap activity to do once, a Discovery Museum membership for your entire family will set you back about $100 a year and you and your kids will be all kinds of – very hot – for many days. park this summer. This place is great for older kids and toddlers (and let’s face it, it’s fun for adults too).
9. Legends Splash Pad. This free water park is great fun for kids. Located at the Outlets Center at Legendsin Sparks, this water park shoots water down and over long rocks. There are benches all around so you can keep an eye on your kids while they cool off on hot summer days.
