Best Things To Do In Denver, From Speakeasies To Wildlife Reserves

Everyone knows Denver as the Mile High City, because it has an elevation of exactly 5,280 feet. It is the capital of Colorado as well as the most populous city in the state. We also learned that the US was named the best place to live in the United States by. World News & Reports.

We can see why it ranks well among other cities in the country. Denver is a thriving metropolis with lots of open space and opportunities for an active lifestyle, a great city, a great offering of cultural activities, and a great culinary scene (they just filmed Top Chef season 15 here).

That said, Denver’s altitude makes it difficult for some people. People with asthma and other medical conditions may not do well here, and the baker has plenty of time to let the cakes rise properly (it’s an art form!).

We don’t suffer from any major medical conditions and don’t have plans to fry during our year around the world, so Denver is a great place for us to come down and enjoy the outdoors and all the city has to offer. There is a place.

Our home during this time in Denver was in the historic Brown Palace Hotel in the city. The Brown Palace is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Denver and they were celebrating their 125th anniversary when we were there. If you’re wondering where to stay in Denver for the best access to many activities, The Brown Palace is!

We found The Brown Palace Hotel unique for several reasons. The exterior construction was very modern for its time, built of stone in a flat or triangular shape. He has laid out the facade with a wide entrance that leads to a magnificent lobby with an internal corridor, beautiful grills and arches and unique lighting.

The Brown Palace Hotel is also home to several restaurants: Ship Tavern, Ellingtons, Palace of Hands, as well as two cocktail lounges. They serve afternoon tea (a good British influence will do) and Sunday brunch with Dom Perignon Champagne. We appreciate that the chefs make an effort to use local and sustainable ingredients while preparing some pretty impressive dishes.

The stunningly beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater is magnificent, surreal, spectacular outdoor amphitheater set among deep red sandstone cliffs about 26 miles west of Denver. Geology lovers, climbers, bikers, and music lovers visit Red Rocks throughout the year.

The park itself covers 738 hectares, located in the transition zone between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. It has some really unique and interesting geological features, remains of past inhabitants (including dinosaurs), flora and fauna, and some great hiking and biking trails. Access to the park is free and open daily from one hour before sunset to one hour after sunset.

The amphitheater, with a seating capacity of over 9,000, is a naturally formed basin between Ship Rock and Creation Rock, creating “acoustic perfection”. Music festivals and events are held throughout the year and cover all genres of music from techno and hip-hop to rock and country and everything in between. Although tickets can be hard to come by – every concert sells out – if you can snag some, you won’t be disappointed with the experience. Sitting among the stars with giant monoliths on both sides of the stage, you will lose yourself in the music.

Red Rocks Amphitheater is also known for its high intensity workouts! This stair workout is no joke! Peter and I tried it and I passed out halfway up the stairs! This is for 3 reasons, Red Rocks Amphitheater is 6000 feet above sea level, there are about 360 stairs from the parking lot to the upper concession and we do our stair workout in the winter, it’s cold!

Located in the heart of Cheesman Park, the Botanical Gardens are definitely worth a few hours (or more) of your time. With 41 gardens spread over 24 hectares and over 15,000 plant species, you will see some spectacular flower displays as well as sculptures and other art.

A great way to experience the garden is on a dusty tour. It’s even better if it’s explained by someone who clearly loves the environment.

Denver’s Union Station is much more than the city’s transportation hub. Built in the early Art Deco era and still resplendent today, the station is home to city buses and rail lines as well as Amtrak, Hotel Crawford, boutiques and restaurants.

Located in what is now known as Lower Downtown, you’ll find that Union Station is a hub of activity most days and evenings, with great people-watching on the station’s couches and chairs. You can stroll through various boutiques and galleries, stop for a cup of coffee, a cocktail or a full meal, or visit a luxury hotel within the walls.

Best of all, you can get anywhere in the city from this one location via 125 RTD bus routes, 9 light rail routes (with 53 stations), and free Metroride and Mallride services. This is very convenient for guests who do not choose a car. You can also find transportation to and from Denver International Airport as well as many local ski and resort destinations.

While exploring the city we stumbled upon Union Station, just looking for something to eat and as we walked past restaurants we found lots of small shops, bars and an open square perfect for drinking, working and hanging out with friends. It was full of people. This is a great place to hang out, enjoy a drink or coffee depending on the time of day, and relax.

Each building in the Denver Art Museum is a work of art in itself. Before entering, you should check out the 3 structures that make up the best museum in the Mountain Time Zone.

The original building is a modern version of the palace and the exterior features over 1 million reflective glass boxes, thanks to Gio Ponti’s vision. I was most impressed by the museum’s second structure, known as the Frederick S. Hamilton Building. I can’t decide if it looks like a futuristic Star Wars spaceship (with 9,000 titanium panels) or if it’s just designed upside down. Either way, it’s gorgeous. third and
