On the third Saturday in August, car enthusiasts from around the world gather in Detroit to show off their four-wheeled treasures and drive down the city’s main thoroughfare. The festival stretches for miles, but most of the action takes place north of downtown, along Woodward and nearby side streets for about 8 to 10 miles.
Between road closures and a massive event schedule, it’s hard to know where to start on your dream cruise. Try diving at 9 Mile, a few blocks east or west of Woodward. You can “ooh and aah” over the cars while enjoying the Ferndale neighborhood attractions.
On Saturdays, the main halls are filled with sellers of produce, cheese, spices and flowers, but you can also visit the specialty shops (sweets) and cafes around the halls and markets of Russell on Mondays to Fridays. In addition, there is a flea market on Tuesdays from June to September and a craft market with food trucks on Sundays. Instead, step away from the mirror every day.
