Loveland Ski Area may not be the most sophisticated destination, but it’s recognized by locals as the best reason to love skiing in Colorado. Here you can expect incredible crowds, short cable car lines and reasonable prices. One of the best current deals, it comes with three half-day training sessions. Equipment rental is included in the lessons, so you don’t have to spend extra money if you find you hate the sport. But if you find a new interest, completing the course allows you to purchase a season pass for just $100.

In short, seeing Steamboat Ski Resort’s trademark “champagne powder” doesn’t come cheap. Cable car tickets cost US$150 to US$200 per day in most seasons. But those prepared for early season conditions can save big with the Steamboat Boat Launch Pass. This $249 pass allows entry for three days from opening day (November 23rd is November 23rd) through December 16th. Dive dates do not apply and visits do not have to be consecutive. After a day of skiing or horseback riding, be sure to visit Strawberry Park Hot Springs, one of the best hot springs in Colorado.
A 749 adult ticket to Copper Mountain may seem like the most affordable option. But if you are a parent, this is your place to stay. All children under fifteen ski for free with the purchase of this pass. Copper Mountain, not far from Denver, offers a youth-oriented day trip. But if your family is up for the trip, this pass includes three days at Monarch, Purgatory, Taos Ski Valley and Arizona Snowball.
Eldora may not be the only one offering a discounted season pass. But since it’s only an hour from Denver, the difference is an added attraction for locals who can enjoy the races Monday through Friday. The $439 weekly pass is about 40% off full price. Take advantage of the discount and stop by any weekend before opening (November 18) for a bargain on season gear.
Anyone who has lived in Colorado long enough knows Aspen’s reputation as a luxury resort for the rich and famous. But with the mountain pass, even those on a budget can experience the charming mountain town and stunning slopes. For $579, skiers and bikers get two-day access to 24 ski destinations, including Aspen Snowmass and Arapahoe Basin. Additional cable car tickets are 50% off if you decide to explore more than two days from a particular resort.

If you think $83 Steamboat Lift tickets are cheap, check this out: Arapahoe Basin Start of Season Passes cost as little as $33 per day. A-Basin may not be that big or iconic, but it’s a local favorite for its rugged terrain, après-ski fun and super-long season. While the Fall 3-Pack won’t let you slip away on July 4th, the value of this first season pass can’t be beat. Book all three dates from mid-October to December 16 (block dates apply November 19-26).
Many Colorado ski resorts offer discounted passes to enrolled college students, but few are as affordable as Monarch Mountain. This $309 student pass is over 40% cheaper than the regular adult price. Although the ski resort is smaller than the state’s mega-resorts, fewer people mean shorter lines and cleaner snow. Monarch is three hours from Denver, so a visit may require more than a day of travel, but lodging in the area is relatively inexpensive.
The $869 Icon Base Pass includes unlimited access to 13 resorts, three of which are in Colorado: Winter Park, Eldora and Copper Mountain. You can also enjoy five days at Steamboat and Arapahoe Basin, as well as 28 other resorts around the world. Ski destinations near Colorado include Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico and Snowbird and Brighton Resorts in Utah. But by reaching the mountains of Europe, Canada and Australia, you’ll probably be inspired to take a ski trip abroad.
If you don’t want to worry about blackout dates or limited tours, Ski Cooper has you covered. Your subscription pass gives you unlimited access at a great value of just $429. However, please note that the fee will increase to $529 in October. Like many of the “local mountains” on this list, the ski area isn’t as over-the-top as Colorado’s destination resorts. But the powder is deep, the terrain is different, and the passage offers other nearby places. That includes three days at Monarch, Loveland, Sunshine and Powderhorn, as well as dozens of overseas resorts.
