The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is like no other and is known as “America’s Mountain Zoo.” It is built on a hillside and offers a spectacular view of Colorado Springs. We recommend hopping on the Sky Ride chairlift to really appreciate the scenery. At 6,714 feet above sea level, this zoo is the highest in North America. It offers many exhibits, events and interactions with animals such as feeding goats, chickens and birds. But the real crowd favorite is feeding the giraffes. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s herd of giraffes is world famous and the largest of any zoo in North America. For a few dollars you can buy a bunch of spinach and let the giraffes eat out of your hand with their black tongues!

The North Pole is a beautiful vintage theme park full of Christmas spirit. The North Pole, located at the base of Pikes Peak, is usually open from May to December and is only a 20-minute drive from Colorado Springs. This Christmas-themed theme park offers about twenty unique attractions ideal for young families, and many of the attractions are suitable for children. At the North Pole, you can enjoy a show with Elmer the elf, visit Santa Claus and enjoy plenty of sweet treats.

You can skate all year round at the Sertich Ice Center in Colorado Springs. The center offers public skating, skating lessons for all abilities and ice hockey leagues. In the winter, the city opens an outdoor ice rink where you can wear scarves and gloves and create fun winter memories by skating outdoors in the park. Skate in the Park is located in Acacia Park and hours vary, so check the website before you go.

At Great Wolf Lodge, no matter what the weather is like outside, you can have fun in the indoor heated water park 365 days a year! Take a ride on the highest cog railway in the world. The Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway has been taking visitors to Pikes Peak since 1891. This three-and-a-half-hour round trip offers passengers beautiful views and incredible scenery as they climb to an elevation of 8,000 feet. 14 to the top of Pikes Peak at 115 feet. Once you reach the top, take a moment to enjoy the beautiful views, then check out the new Pikes Peak Visitor Center before heading back up the mountain.

Spend some time exploring the historic sources of Manitou! There are lots of cute shops and restaurants to enjoy here, but the kids especially love visiting the Penny Arcade. Penny Arcade has more than 400 arcade games, many of which still cost only pennies. Within the arcade there is also a small amusement park with attractions that small children will enjoy. When you’re done playing, grab a bite to eat or sample the famous “healing” mineral water, then drive to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings Museum. These impressive ruins are 800-1000 years old. The whole family can explore, go inside and touch the habitats.

This indoor climbing area is a great place for kids of all ages to have fun and recharge their batteries. In addition to casual climbing, CityRock offers courses for children ages two and up and day camps for children ages six and up. They have a yoga studio and a full fitness and training center. Separated from the main climbing crags is a dedicated play area for children under six called The Erie. This fun playground features a slide, cargo net, low climbing rock and zip line. When you’re all hungry from all that climbing, you can stroll over to Cityrock’s restaurant, Ute & Yeti, for a delicious lunch.
