Colorado Ski And Snowboard Expo November 4 – For die-hard snowboarders and skiers… we know, oh we know. You want to hit the slopes and nothing, not even the plague, will stop you. For many Houstonians, that means planning a trip to Colorado ski country—some of our city’s favorite winter getaways. But when the snow starts to fall and the ski areas open, there are new restrictions and protocols. Here’s an update on five of the region’s most popular ski resorts.
In addition to new Covid-19 health protocols and guidelines — you may need to book lift tickets and ski school in advance, rentals and gondolas may operate at limited capacity, and ski schools will limit class sizes and attend half-day lessons. — Some districts are using the summer to replace lifts, work on upgrades to snowmaking operations and more.
Colorado Ski And Snowboard Expo November 4
Aspen Snowmass will sell tickets onsite at the lift ticket window, but advance online purchase is recommended to guarantee access. Expect limited capacity in rentals, grocery stores and restaurants with new grab-and-go options on all four mountains—or use the Aspen Snowmass app to order food. Aspen Snowmass passholders do not need to make a reservation at this time, but Icon holders must make a reservation in advance of their visit. New for Winter 2020-21: Aspen Snowmass is replacing the Big Burn quad lift at Snowmass with a new $10.8 million 6-passenger high-speed lift. At Aspen Mountain, 28 state-of-the-art, energy-efficient snow guns will allow top-down snowmaking for the first time this winter. Snowmass also welcomes snowmaking on its 28 acres, offering more reliable early-season skiing and riding conditions. Two new restaurants, High Alpine and Alpin Room, will replace longtime Snowmass favorites Gwyn.
Copper Mountain will implement a parking reservation system during the winter to help manage volume at the resort. Guests can book up to seven days in advance for the entire season starting November 9. Once the season starts, guests can make unlimited reservations within a seven-day window. As days are used up, guests will be able to book more days in advance. Copper will open on November 30 to allow more space and elevators to be available on opening day. Three copper villages and naturally divided terrain will allow visitors to spread out over the mountain and base area. Specific Covid-19 information can be found here.
A new 127-room, four-story hotel will open in Spilendzi at the end of 2020. Element 29 is located in Center Village, giving guests optimal access to the Village’s slopes, activities and dining. The hotel will also have an outdoor patio located on West Ten Mile Creek, as well as a fire pit and hot tub. Copper also installed more snowmaking compressors this season, which will allow more snow guns to be used during early season snowmaking operations. The steamboat does not require a reservation for pass holders at this time. Advance ticket purchases, packages and season pass products are now the only way to access the mountain. Lift tickets will not be available for purchase at the resort ticket office. It will not be possible to purchase separate tickets from December 23 to January 2. Reservations are required for ski and driving schools, rentals, some restaurants and free clinics. Night skiing is possible only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Steamboat will also have two unique outdoor dining options, welcoming the roaming Taco Beast, as well as the all-new Pizza Ranger, which will offer pizza delivery options to the Bashor area. Be Prepared For Ski Season
Telluride will feature 20 renovated gondolas offering dining options in the mountain village, as well as extended yurts and outdoor dining services along the mountain. More information on Covid-19 here.
Telluride will also welcome new air service this winter when Southwest Airlines and Jet Blue add flights to Montrose Regional Airport (MJT) beginning in mid-December. Southwest will fly two to three times daily from Denver (DEN) and on Saturdays and Sundays from Dallas Love Field (DAL). Jet Blue will operate from Boston Logan Airport (BOS) on Saturdays and select Wednesdays during the season.
New this winter is the Midweek Pass, which gives guests unlimited access Monday through Friday with no holidays throughout the season, starting at $539 for adults and $299 for children. Winter Park does not require reservations at this time. All rentals, lessons, activities and tours must be pre-booked prior to arrival. Winter Park is also working to create as many contactless options as possible in all restaurants and retailers. For snowboarders only, Sunlight Terrain Park is the place to practice or show off your skills and tricks. Resort amenities include a main lodge with indoor and outdoor dining, an equipment rental shop, a grocery store, and a ski and snowboard school. Sunlight usually opens around Thanksgiving and closes in early April.
For those who ski further afield, some of the sport’s most recognizable names are within 40 minutes of Glenwood Springs. To the south, visitors will find Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Butterfly and Snowmass. To the east are Vail and Beaver Creek. In the best downhill race in the state, with seven mountains to choose from, Glenwood Springs is the clear winner.

FORT CARSON, Colo. — The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) Office of Outdoor Recreation is holding its annual Ski and Snowboard Expo on November 5, 2022, in the Outdoor Recreation Building for the first time in two years.
The event is designed to help Soldiers and their families prepare for the upcoming ski season and allow the public to meet a variety of vendors to make outdoor recreation the ultimate experience.
As the winter vacation season approaches, people start preparing by purchasing the gear they need to enjoy Colorado’s snow and ski season. One of the biggest reasons people come out to the event is the discount prices they can get on outdoor gear. There are many places that outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the outdoors in Colorado, and outdoor recreation has as much information as possible during the expo. There will also be plenty of vendors informing the public about the outdoor adventures that await them this winter.
Our Month By Month Look At The Best Time To Ski In Colorado
Both couples who came to the fair were also new to the area and wanted to experience Colorado’s outdoor recreation. Kyle and Zoe Mattix are from Indiana, and while the weather can be pretty rough in the winter, it doesn’t compare to the outdoor experience people get in Colorado.
“Snow in Indiana is more like artificial snow because it turns to ice so quickly before you can enjoy outdoor snow-related recreational activities. “When the ice turns, if you’re snowboarding, you’re going too fast, and if you hit the ground, you hit the ground too hard,” said Kyle Mattix.
