Monarch Scenic Tram (salida)

The magic happened when we parked on F Street, the main thoroughfare of this mountain town. Many of the art galleries caught my eye, but the comic book store caught my teenage self’s attention.

Forget the typical gift shops, downtown Salida has fun shops you won’t find anywhere else. You can find everything you need at F Street Five and Dime.

There are three libraries with fantasy games and comics, which double as gathering places for weekly Magic Nights and Dungeons and Dragons events.

Another unique place in town is Howl Mercantile. Like the old store, this place also has gifts, coffee, ice cream, rental equipment, and Airbnb!

In all the unique shops, you can see pictures on the brick walls. It features the city’s history, popular sports like whitewater rafting, and vintage advertisements.

Need a place to keep the kids busy while they wait for dinner? Check out Fun Street Family Arcade – From skeeball to pinball and everything in between, this place will bring out the kid in you.

Head to Fritz on E. Sackett Ave for tapas on the patio. I can’t recommend a task list because it changes so often.

Save room and the next stop is Amica’s wood-fired pizza, or if you’re with friends, split a large calzone.

In addition to being a whitewater hot spot, the Arkansas River is also known for its fantastic fishing. Near Salida is a 28-mile stretch of Gold Medal waters that are great for trout fishing.

Captain Zipline is on my list for my next visit. I’m always looking for ziplines and this one has a tutorial, looks like a real gem.

One of the most popular things to do in Salida CO during the winter is to get out on the snow. Monarch Mountain Ski Resort is the premier ski resort on Monarch Pass and is great for all skill levels. That’s why we found this gem of an area.
