To get to Vail, we flew direct from Charlotte to Denver and then rented a car to drive another two hours from Denver to Vail. To be honest, it’s a long journey with a baby! The Denver airport is huge and you have to take the train to baggage claim. If you are renting a car, another 15 minute bus ride to the rental car location before picking up the car. Another caveat: Driving from Denver to Vail can be confusing: there’s constant traffic, and there aren’t many gas stations, restrooms, or restaurants. On the road (it’s mostly just mountains). We sat in the car for over three hours on the way home trying to catch our flight from the Denver airport! All that said, it’s best to get a connecting flight from Denver to Vail and then rent a car in Vail!
VRBO: We chose to stay with VRBO during our stay in Vail. I found it easier to stay on a VRBO with a baby than in a cramped hotel room! We stayed at this unique hotel located in the heart of Vail Village
The Best Things To Do In Vail, Colorado During The Summer
Five bedrooms and four full bathrooms. Kennedy even has his own room which is amazing and we don’t disturb him at night when he sleeps! The hotel has a full kitchen (perfect for Kennedy to cook), a great living room, and a small outdoor area where you can sit outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of the sun. It is very child friendly and we can add a crib and high chair from the rental company. The only downside to this particular apartment was that we had to park far away and roll our luggage over the cobblestone road to take it home, not something we were looking forward to after a long walk!
Four Seasons Resort Vail: There are several resorts in downtown Vail (and they all look great), but I’ve read the best about the Four Seasons, so I’ve included it in this travel guide. Located on the doorstep of Vail Village we had to drive through on our way to our VRBO and it was beautiful from the outside! It is a 5-star hotel and it should have good service, beautiful location and good view.
GORSUCH SKI CAFE: My friend Claudia told me about this place and I’m so glad we go there almost every morning for coffee and breakfast! It ended up on our VRBO and we had to walk a few feet to get there. If you have time for a quiet morning, be sure to snuggle up by one of their cozy fireplaces and wrap yourself in a signature Gorsuch blanket! For breakfast, their quiche, chocolate croissant, poached egg, ham and cheddar croissant, along with a steaming hot latte. Be sure to come back in the evening and order a maple lemonade – it’s amazing (and a little tart!) and really good. Kennedy loved it – he drank half of mine and I didn’t enjoy it all haha!
Yeti’s Grind: There were a few days when we got up at 7am (due to the time difference) and Yeti’s Grind was the only restaurant open so we went for coffee! A cute and charming cafe at the bottom of Vail Mountain. As the name suggests, the theme of the restaurant is ‘Yeti’ and there are lots of cute coffee mugs and stuffed animals for sale that go with the theme. The staff is very friendly and their coffee is amazing, especially their specialty lattes (I love the “Italian Stallion”). My biggest complaint is that they don’t make their own breakfast, they heat it up in the microwave; So, I recommend going to another restaurant!
Bavaria In Vail, Colorado
Big Bear Bistro: This little restaurant was our favorite meal of our entire trip! We didn’t even eat at the restaurant, we ordered take out and then took it to our little outdoor house to enjoy while Kennedy slept. The food is amazing, from their croissant French toast to their fresh mozzarella panini. Best meal of the trip!!
Los Amigos: Los Amigos is a small Mexican restaurant in the basement of the building. We spent the night on their patio watching the gondola over the mountains. The weather was great, and while the Mexican food wasn’t the best I’ve had, I recommend it for the experience.
Important: We pre-booked the Mountain Standard because we heard it was one of the best restaurants in Vail, and it was quick! This rustic bar is located on the Gore River in downtown Vail. Most of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared over a fire, and they have unique and delicious food. We like to eat sour cream and onions (for appetizer) and roast chicken (entrée). The best part of the whole meal was the cheese machine that came out of the kids menu! I fought Kennedy with every bite.
Up the Creek: This might be our favorite dinner we had in the sun! This restaurant is quiet (but still good), right on the Gore River. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed watching the kids and dogs play in the water all afternoon! My mom really liked the salmon so I ordered a soup and salad combo. The food is good, but the location is even better: during dinner we relaxed in the sun and enjoyed the food!
Après Ski Style In Vail Colorado
Who: If you’re looking for a super restaurant to drink, watch sports or listen to live music, Red Tiger is there! Our VRBO was across the street from this restaurant and it seemed like there was always laughter and music going on. We stopped by for a quick night and they offer a variety of delicious food. If I wasn’t pregnant, I would definitely down some beer and enjoy it! 😉
Vendetta’s: We had pizza at Vendetta’s on our first night in Vail – tired from the trip, we thought pizza would be a quick option! I highly recommend the “Poppy’s Passion” pizza: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and black olives. It was a sweet and easy choice for our first night
