The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is like no other and is known as “America’s Mountain Zoo”. It is built on the hillside and offers a breathtaking view of Colorado Springs. Located at the base of Pikes Peak, North Pole is usually open from May to December and is only 20 minutes from Colorado Springs. Take a ride on the world’s highest cog railway. The Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway has been transporting visitors to Pikes Peak since 1891. The three-and-a-half-hour journey offers passengers spectacular views and breathtaking views as the train climbs to an altitude of 8,000 feet. Reaching the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet. Once at the top, take some time to enjoy the spectacular views, then check out the new Pikes Peak Visitor Center before descending the mountain.
Take some time to explore the historic origins of Manitou! There are lots of nice shops and restaurants, but kids especially enjoy going to the Penny Arcade. Penny Arcade has over 400 arcade games and some of them still cost pennies. The arcade has a small amusement park with rides for the little ones. Once you’re at the arcade, grab a bite to eat or drink the famous “healing” mineral water, then visit the Manitowoc Rock Dwelling Museum. These interesting ruins are 800-1000 years old. The whole family can explore, move in and even touch the living space.
This indoor climbing complex is a great place for kids of all ages to have fun and get excited. In addition to urban rock climbing, CityROCK offers lessons for children as young as two and day camps for children as young as six. They have a yoga studio and a full fitness and workout area. In addition to the main climbing wall, there is an area called “Aeri” specifically for children under the age of six. This fun playground features a slide, cargo net, low climbing wall and zip line. When everyone is hungry from the climb, you can visit the Cityrock Ute and Yeti Restaurant for a delicious lunch.
