How can I enjoy summer in New York? There are many ways to enjoy summer in New York. The city hosts many festivals, many of them even free. You can enjoy chilled drinks at one of the rooftop bars or go on one of the many cruises. Or how about a picnic in Central Park? What to do when it’s very hot in New York? NYC can be very hot in the summer. So you should take it easy. Have a picnic in Central Park or take a cruise to see the Manhattan skyline from the water. If you want to stay in air-conditioned buildings, you can visit some of the museums, for example. Is New York worth visiting in the summer? New York is always worth a visit. New York City can be very hot in the summer, but even on hot summer days there is plenty to do and see in the city. As a local, I wanted to share my personal list of exciting things to do on a summer day in New York. I’m more of a budget traveler so most of these tips won’t break the bank for me. So, without further ado, let’s dive in!

. Not to sound too silly to you, but an urban heat island is a climate effect where the temperature of the island is 7 degrees higher than the surrounding area. You should always be prepared for the high summer temperatures in NYC and make sure you are properly hydrated!

Do you want to enjoy the summer in New York looking like a natural New Yorker? I have a solution for you: grab this little gem! You’ll see them in New York for good reason – they’re classic and offer protection from the harsh sun. I have three of these hats, but who’s counting.
Even if you take the subway, you’ll still spend a ridiculous amount of time on your feet. They will probably hurt at some point, but you can minimize the pain and enjoy your New York summer by wearing the most comfortable walking shoes. My feet thanked me when I started wearing them!
Years of braving the New York heat have taught me that it’s better to cover up with breathable clothing than to shed layers. Linen has become a staple in my wardrobe due to its weather resistance and durability. I always feel for them when I know I’ll be out all day.
This is not new advice, but it is very important in this case. The heat and humidity of New York in the summer can hide people. My advice? Take frequent breaks in shady areas and go inside when you have the chance. Also, leave 15 minutes earlier than usual to avoid rushing and sweating.

Bryant Park is perfectly located among the tall office buildings that make up the heart of midtown Manhattan. Located right behind the iconic New York Public Library, it’s not unusual for all the chairs and benches to fill up on hot New York summer days.
At 9.6 acres, it’s not the largest park in New York, but it often feels like the most populated.
My favorite time of year to visit Bryant Park is the summer because of all the events it hosts. Most importantly, New York’s summer lawn hosts long-awaited free movies. The whole area is filled with happy people on picnic blankets, which seems like a symbol of happiness.
Picnic in Central Park is one of the most famous events in New York during the summer. In fact, during the summer months, a 15-acre green space called Sheep Meadow blooms for 30,000 locals and tourists (not a typo).

If you want vitamin D, find some sun and feel like half of New York. But if action is more your speed, the whole park is at your feet. You’ll find people throwing frisbees, kids running around laughing uncontrollably, and people throwing baseballs.
All in all, no matter what kind of fun you’re into, you’re sure to find something to enjoy at Sheep Meadow when you’re flying in New York.

Held at the prestigious Delacorte Theater and maintained by serious production values, the shows are entertaining for audiences of all ages and interests. Tickets are distributed on the day and aren’t always easy to come by, although if you’re lucky you’ll love missing out on a few.
