Gold is located near the corner of Evergreen and Morrison, known as the Red Rocks Amphitheater, and several scenic drives. Definitely one of the more popular trails, the Lariat Loop starts in Gold and goes through both Evergreen and Morrison. There is also a tunnel drive between Golden and Boulder. This historic town is the gateway to Colorado’s Old Range to the spectacular Rocky Mountains. Golden is a great choice for a family day or Denver getaway.

Diana Rowe recommends visitors to Golden put one foot in front of the other with a free self-guided tour of Golden’s public art collection. Over 30 world-renowned works of art, including some of Colorado’s most famous bronze sculptures. They are scattered throughout the town and around Clear Creek. Highlights include “Cowboy Day Off,” “Rotary Butterfly,” and “Monarch,” the last of which is a giant buffalo sculpture in front of the Buffalo Rose.
Rowe’s favorite game is in front of the Gold Hospitality Center – Buffalo Bill’s Grandson. Also, look for gold mirrors on streets like Miners Alley and on the sides of many downtown buildings, including Mountain Toad Brewery.
The heart of this historic city is Washington Street Square, a pedestrianized shopping street. Diana recommends walking around your resort, window shopping, and popping into a variety of stores, from unique boutiques to antique stores and more. At Goozell Yogurt & Coffee, parents can get their cafe fix while the kids top up on milk and add more fun at the bar above.

Another of Diana Rowe’s favorites is the Geology Museum at the Colorado School of Mines. Admission to the gold tower of the second largest university (after Harvard) is free. The rocks of this geological museum have many characteristics.
See moon rocks from the 2 Apollo missions, minerals, fossils, gems, meteorites, and historical mineral exhibits. There is also a geological route outside with many fossils. Don’t miss my walking, glow-in-the-dark, imitation uranium.
If you like museums, don’t stop at the Geological Museum. After all, the area is rich in gold history. Gold has several museums, including the Gold History Museum, Gold History Park, Bradford Washburn Museum of American Mountaineering, Dinosaur Ridge, and even the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. The Boettcher Mansion is known as an event venue and offers self-guided historical tours and a gift shop. There is a museum for everyone!

The Foothills Arts Center encourages the Golden State community to love the arts, offering free admission and an opportunity for families to renew their love of the arts. Founded in 1968 and a member of the US National Register of Historic Buildings, the main exhibit is an 1872 Gothic church and an 1892 Queen Anne-style parsonage, all surrounded by a beautiful garden. Another of Diana’s favorite family friendly activities in Golden CO is a road trip to the top of Lookout Mountain, where you will also find the Buffalo Bill Museum and Buffalo Bill Grave. In 1917, attended by 20,000 mourners, Buffalo Bill Cody was placed atop Lookout Mountain where he would have regular views of the mountains and the surrounding countryside. A few years later, his friend started a museum near his grave.
The Buffalo Bill Museum is home to amazing exhibits – photos and memorabilia from the Wild West Show through the years, Native American artifacts, weapons and tools from the era, and interactive children’s exhibits. A one-mile mountain trail connects the Buffalo Bill Museum and the Mountain Lookout Nature Center.
Truly unique to the region, Red Rocks combines natural wonders with an outstanding concert and events program. Come during the day to see the best of the red sandstone formations, which are over 250 million years old and 300 feet high. A balanced 1.4 mile loop area for the best views. Come back in the evening to experience acoustic perfection as some of music’s biggest stars take the stage.

The museum is home to fifty models of old trains and is also located on the famous D&RG site. This is the oldest working trailer in United. Walk the museum’s 15-acre railroad yard. Train-goers will be treated to hundreds of narrow gauge and steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, HO model trains and G gauge trains.
Rowe said you can ride the train around the Colorado Railroad Museum and be rewarded with a view of the train from the ground. With over 200 trains, passenger cars, cabooses, an HO Model Railroad and a G-class train, you’ll spend hours viewing the railroad memorabilia that love. Also take time to browse their showrooms and popular library. This is also one of the stops on Thomas the Tank Engine tours.
Gold is perhaps best known as the home of Coors Brewery. But the most famous company is one of many in this city. Golden City Brewery, the second largest brewery, is perhaps best known for its tap room and outdoor garden. Colorado’s many small breweries and microbreweries make this historic city a beer paradise.
Coors Brewery Tours offers personalized tours that highlight the history of the brewery as well as the passion for the drink. But there are also guided tours to taste many other local products.

To get into the winter holiday mood, celebrate the holiday in the original city with Olde Golden Christmas. This festive event includes a parade on the Saturday of December and a Candlelight Walk on the first Friday of December.
