A few weeks ago, Kevin and I spent the weekend in Philadelphia to celebrate our anniversary. We are very happy in this happy city. Philadelphia is fascinating – so much beauty and history here. It’s like stepping back in time, or traveling across the ocean and relaxing in a romantic European city with all its historic buildings, architecture, and streets.

If you’re wondering what to do in Philadelphia, we’ve researched all the popular things to do in Philadelphia and put them on a handy list. Here are the best things to do in Philadelphia:

Next to the Liberty Bell is the Independence Hall, where the Liberty Bell once hung and where the Declaration of Independence was written and signed by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock, to name a few.

Entry to Independence Hall is free, but you need a ticket. Free tickets can be obtained at the Liberty Visitor Center near the Liberty Bell. The Visitor Center opens daily at 8:30am, grab a ticket before or after you see the Liberty Bell, then head to the Independence Hall.

If you’re a Rocky fan, you know this idea! The Philadelphia Museum of Art (also known as the “Stone Stairs”) is where Rocky Balboa climbed the famous 72 steps.

This is the way to look up! You can see the Stone Statue at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Running the Stone Steps is definitely on Kevin’s list of “things to do in Philadelphia”!!

Philadelphia City Hall is the largest public building in the United States. It is located next to the romantic and reading Terminal Market. There’s an observation tower and deck inside, but even if you don’t go inside, it’s definitely worth a stop and a look.

The Betsy Ross House is a Philadelphia landmark where tailor and seamstress Betsy Ross lived when she sewed the first American flag.

We originally planned to go in and see the outside, but for a small fee you can even go inside and see what the house would have looked like in 1700. It’s really nice to see the inside. A very small step!

If you’re looking for things to do in Philadelphia, I highly recommend walking down this street!

Only in Philadelphia can you visit America’s first post office. The postmen here wear colonial-style clothing and use parchment and ink to write – a vivid representation of colonial life. People come from all over to post their mail here, as the mail sent to this post office is hand-stamped with a special post. Feel free to send postcards from here as souvenirs of your trip! Located west of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you’ll find a row of 15 boats built in the 19th century that housed various social clubs and boats on the Schuylkill River. If you’re looking for things to do in Philadelphia, this is a great place to spend an afternoon!

Another highlight of the trip was a visit to the Magical Gardens of Philadelphia. This is one of our favorite things to do in Philadelphia!!

The man behind the mosaics is Isaiah Zagar, a local artist who began painting South Philadelphia’s famous street in the 1960s and hasn’t stopped.

There is a small entrance fee to the garden, but you can see a lot of it outside, and the walls around the garden are also decorated!

South Street is one of Philadelphia’s busiest neighborhoods. Philadelphia’s most famous street, South Street is a melting pot of groups and cultures. It has character and beauty with over 300 different shops and over 60 restaurants, cafes and bars.

One of our favorite things to do in Philadelphia is to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge at sunset.

On one side of the bridge is Philadelphia and on the other side, New Jersey. We took an Uber across the bridge into New Jersey and back to Philadelphia to work up an appetite. Amazing views of the river and the Philadelphia skyline at sunset!

We like to walk around Philadelphia whenever we can, but sometimes you need a bar. Thank God Uber! Ever heard of Uber?? It’s your own private car and cheaper than a taxi. All you have to do is download the Uber app, and it will show you where the drivers are near you and tell you how long it will take for the car to reach you.

Uber is available in most cities around the world and a car can arrive in less than 5 minutes. You even set your destination through the app so you don’t have to worry about your driver not speaking English or knowing where to take you.

No need to wait outside in the cold, heat or rain for a taxi – the app sends you alerts when your driver is approaching and other notifications when he arrives.

You can add a credit card or Paypal account to your Uber account, so you don’t have to worry about paying the driver. Everything is done through the app – no exchange of money. You get in the car, the driver takes you to your location and you get out. Don’t worry about paying, you can just log in and go!

Counseling is also included. It says on their website that it is included in the service charge. So much easier than a taxi! Uber is truly the fastest, most efficient, and most reliable way to get around Philadelphia!
