Top Free Things To Do In Denver
Most of these free activities in Denver are available year-round, except for a few, like hiking on a high snow-capped peak. Many are within walking distance of downtown Denver or use accessible public transportation.
Some of these attractions are in the suburbs, while others are less than a day’s drive from Denver. So get ready for an adventure and get ready to have some fun at Mile High.
With breathtaking views of Denver and a reputation as one of the best concert halls in the world, the Red Rocks Amphitheater is a true wonder of Mother Nature. Formed from two sandstone monoliths, Ship Rock and Creation Rock, the amphitheater has hosted some of the biggest rock stars in the world.
The best part is that when there’s no concert, it’s totally free to explore. Take to the stage with U2, the Blues Brothers, the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen and embrace your inner rock star or simply marvel at the phenomenon of an acoustically perfect, naturally shaped audience.

Around the amphitheater you will often find people taking part in yoga classes, hiking or jogging. There will likely be a lot of stairs to climb to get to the Red Rocks tent, but we think it’s worth it for the stunning views.
When you visit Red Rocks, you won’t be visiting the nearby Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Located in the Red Rocks Amphitheater Visitor Center, CMHOF educates visitors about the incredible musicians who have helped shape Denver’s music scene.
Admission is free (though donations are welcome) and the museum is open daily (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on regular days and from 9 a.m.

Things To Do In Denver
The Denver US Mint is just one of two mints still operating in the United States, and tours are available Monday through Thursday. Note: Although it is free, tickets are still required and can be obtained from the Travel Information Center from 7:00am. the day you wish to visit.
“Art for All” is the area’s motto, and the area is home to galleries, cultural events, and exhibits featuring hundreds of artists. But while many artistic features are behind the closed doors of fee-paying galleries, there is plenty of street art in the area that can be admired completely free of charge.
Speaking of free art, there’s also the First Friday Art Walk, a free gallery bus tour every first Friday of the month at 5:30 p.m., stopping at various galleries that open their doors and welcome visitors into the framework of the visit.
While Denver has spectacular national parks and nearby mountains for hiking, some of the best walks are right downtown. The 42-mile course begins in downtown Denver and winds through urban areas, downtown, through the prairies and ends in Franktown, meandering along Cherry Creek.

The most interesting thing in this mall is not even the stores. it’s the fact that the footpath, a pattern of red, gray and white granite, looks like a diamond rattle from above. In addition to its charming design, the 16th Street Mall is a great place to watch, especially after dark when the twinkling fairy lights light up and the trees on the street sparkle.
Horse-drawn carriages transport people along the promenade. Only city buses and police cars run on 16th Street. You can also visit the D&F Tower, which sits near St. Mark’s Campanile replicas in Venice and a taste of Italy here in Denver.
There is also a free shuttle service called MallRide that runs up and down the 16th Street Mall, making it easy to explore.
Things To Do In Denver When It Rains
You don’t have to go to the desert to see Colorado’s wildlife. right in the middle of town is the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge, a 15,000-acre wildlife refuge where you can spot white-tailed deer, bison, owls, bald eagles, prairie dogs, and hawks , not to mention incredible sunsets.
The sanctuary is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and during the summer months is home to amazing wildlife, from white pelicans in the sky and owls nesting in empty burrows from prairie dogs to frogs, turtles painted and fish in the swamps. the meadows are teeming with wildflowers.
If you love tea, a trip to nearby Boulder should include a free tour of famed tea company Celestial Seasonings.

Colorado is famous for many things. music, beer and, of course, hiking, making the 2-hour climb a must for outdoor enthusiasts. What is 14? That’s Colorado slang for a peak that towers over 14,000 feet above sea level, and Colorado is home to 58 of them (although that number is somewhat disputed!).
Although Bierstadt Mountain isn’t in Denver itself, it’s considered a great 14-hole course for beginners because it’s so close to town. So if you’re in town, have a reasonable level of fitness, and are well prepared for a challenging but not technical hike, take advantage of a free rock climbing workout for 14 year olds. And feel the pride and sense of accomplishment that comes with it!
