Cheap Homes For Sale In Colorado Springs – The collection of dozens of homes at the corner of Chelton Road and Murray Boulevard in southeast Colorado Springs looks like a tiny home to some and a mobile home park to others.
But the developer and builder, Goodwin Knight, said starting the apartment community would increase the city’s inventory of affordable housing.

“I choose to say it’s more affordable housing,” said Bryan Kniep, the company’s vice president of community planning and development. “Affordable housing carries the stigma that it’s for low-income people.

Goodwin Knight will put 68 apartments on the site of the future community one block east of Chelton. It can be studio, one and two bedroom.
“It’s going to be available for people who want a smaller home, for people who want to move up to a bigger unit,” Kniep said. “Monthly rents start at $800 for a studio apartment and $1,000 to $1,100 for larger units.”
The houses were built in Pueblo, transported to Colorado Springs and carefully placed on concrete foundations. Work began in late summer and should be completed this summer.
Many builders and developers are unwilling or unable to build affordable housing because the profit margins are lower than those offered by the existing and growing housing market, and because of societal opposition that strongly opposes it.

The project, called The Cottages at Sand Creek, is the first project in the city – the project has no government funding, it is supported by private investors, and it is expected that the profit will be effective.
“With modular construction, we can control costs in many cases,” Kniep said. “We buy in bulk at a premium. We increase our purchasing power in these cases and we can, I think, pass those savings on to the customer.”
“We have a lower density than you would get from a housing project in an area like this, but at the same time it is more suitable for a single-family home,” he said. “So we see it as a good decision.”
The project is surrounded by old buildings to the east, apartments and houses to the south, and industrial companies to the north and west.

Many neighbors said they liked the project. Among them is Melissa Jones, who has been homeless for over a year, unemployed and renting a room from a friend.
“The last time I looked at apartments, they were very expensive,” he said. “I like these houses. A studio is fine for me because I’ve lived in them before. I don’t need much. It’s just a safe place to call home that I can afford. .”
Goodwin Knight is working on two projects — a $20 million apartment complex on North Cascade Avenue expected to have 168 units open by the end of the year, and a $13 million apartment community near Sand Creek project, 116 units delivered. and hope. to open this fall.
