The Mesa-Cortina Trail to South Willow Creek Falls is an 8.7 mile round trip (4.35 miles to the falls) with heavy traffic. It is classified as a moderately difficult route. This trail is mostly in the shade with some pastures along the way that are great for wildlife viewing. Just 4 miles away, you’ll find a moderate climb to the spectacular South Willow Creek Falls. Be prepared to enjoy the beauty of the scenery.

To access the trail, from downtown Silverthorne, drive south on Wildernest Road, take Wildernest Road to the right onto Buffalo Mountain Drive. After 0.8 miles, turn right onto Lakeview Drive, then left onto Aspen Drive. Continue 0.2 miles and there will be a parking lot on the right side of the road. The site is relatively small, so get there early.
The Lower Cataract Loop Trail is a 2.3 mile loop with beautiful wildflowers and a waterfall. It’s an easy walk with a mix of open space, dense pine forest and aspen groves. Lakes and waterfalls, mountains and wildlife are great to see.
To access this trail about 16.5 miles north of Silverthorne on Highway 9, turn left onto Haney Road just before crossing the Nile River. Stay on the Heeney River for approximately 5.5 miles, turning left at 1725 Forest Road. Follow 1725 for approximately 3 miles. Pass the Surprise Trailhead on your left at the Lower Cataract Loop Trail parking lot. The last half mile at 1725 is gravel but easily manageable by any two wheel drive vehicle.
Willow Creek Falls is a 6.3 mile round trip trail via South Willow Creek. It is rated moderately difficult. The trail is quite narrow, so please be courteous in maintaining social distance between hikers. During the walk you will cross bridges, see wildflowers and wildlife and of course see a waterfall.

The Willowbrook Trailhead can be accessed by driving about 1.5 miles north of Silverthorn. Turn left onto Willowbrook Road. Parking for the Willowbrook Trail is on the left about 1 mile down Willowbrook Road. There is parking for 15-20 cars.
The Gore Range Trail to Meadow Creek Trail Loop is a challenging 12.5 mile loop with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain along the way. Because of the difficulty of this hike, you won’t see many other people on the trail, making it perfect for social distancing and fully absorbing the majesty of the scenery. Make sure you pack plenty of water and be prepared for a workout.
The Buffalo Mountain Trailhead begins this hike at the top of Wilderness. It then connects to the Gore Range Trail and Willow Creek Falls. It goes back to the valley between Buffelberg, Red Peak and Eccles Pass. The trail crosses Eccles Pass and joins the Meadow Creek Trail. Eventually it connects with Lily Pad Trail #50, passing Lily Pad Lake and ending at the Buffalo Mountain Trailhead. There are a few places where you can get your feet wet, so bring some extra socks.
This trail is on the west side of Ryan Gulch Road. Follow Wildernest Road south to Silverthorne. Turn left onto Ryan Gulch Road, follow the winding road for about 3.5 miles to the trailhead on the right. You can see the parking lot from the trail, on the left street.
