If the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “hostel” is a dimly lit room with an empty bed in a dingy downtown building, then you’ve never stayed in Colorado.

Here’s a little-known secret to the most expensive (read: high-priced) ski resorts: They have some of the nicest and most comfortable accommodations you’ll ever set foot on. At least six new ones have been discovered. In Colorado, we don’t think this trend will diminish over the past three years. One of the biggest draws? Community.
“I think any city that has a shelter would do well, which is why we looked for a shelter,” said Laurie Roberts, executive director of the Salida Chamber of Commerce. The town now has two guest houses – Simple Lodge and Hostel – and the new Hotel Salida, and European tourists often ask about it. “As part of the culture, ‘Hey, where are you from?’ “You get invited to speak, and I think that’s the success of these things: you meet people from all over the world.”
Karen Carnuta, who just opened the Salida Hotel in February 2016, said the establishment strives to get places talking about every direction. There is no TV in the building and they don’t play music. But there is enough space to meet friends.
“We have a lot of people who could get the nicest place in town, but they stay here [because of the community],” Carnuta said.

The community aspect of inns inspired Pancho Batchelor to open the Mineshaft Inn in Rico in 2013, just outside of Telluride. He knew he had to live comfortably in this situation, and the vacant Victorian house seemed perfect for that. Many of their guests make friends and help each other during their stay, such as carpooling in Telluride.
“It has to do with that backpacking lifestyle,” Batchelor said. “I want to camp in a remote hotel, not alone.”

The town of Rico may be small, but it has plenty of late 19th century charm and the Mine Shaft Inn is no exception. This hostel is in keeping with Victorian architecture. Is better? There is a natural hot spring about 800 meters from the front door of the hostel.
You can say goodbye to the fear of sleeping next to snoring strangers in the dorm room. Hostel beds are like buns to reduce noise and keep you warm. In addition, you can get a free shuttle to Vail or Beaver Creek every morning.
Colorado Mountain Hostels To Save Your Budget
Book in advance: A week or two’s notice should suffice, and last-minute trips take place a few days in advance.
Salida’s two cabins make Monarch Mountain, the Arkansas River, and Chaffee County’s many hot springs more accessible than ever. The Salida Hotel, opened last year, within walking distance of the center and the river, offers both one room and four private rooms. For an additional $10 (free for guests in a private room), guests in a double room can also enjoy breakfast.
Book in advance: three to four weeks in advance if possible, but there is room for last-minute walk-ins and two-minute room tourists.
A ski under $100? The Divide Rider Hostel (also known as the Del Norte or Organic Peddler Hostel) is a traditional one-bedroom hostel located just 10 miles from Wolf Creek Ski Area. Go on Thanksgiving for a $44 ticket and an even better deal.
