Known for its “champagne powder,” Steamboat Ski Resort is one of Colorado’s premier ski resorts. Its 2,965 acres offer 170 groomed trails with terrain suitable for all skill levels. Night skiing and snowboarding as well as snowshoeing are also offered. You can go ice skating at Steamboat Plaza, the main center of the ski village.
There are many ski accommodations around Steamboat Square. These include The Steamboat Grand, one of the most iconic lodges in the area. The hotel offers a spacious outdoor hot tub and an on-site restaurant, just meters from the ski lifts.
The Steamboat ski area also includes several hotels along US Route 40 (South Lincoln Avenue). One of them is the Homewood Suites by Hilton Steamboat Springs.
About two miles from the ski slopes and a short walking distance from the resort. However, a free ride on the Orange Line will get you there in minutes. Also, these hotels are usually less expensive than hotels at the foot of the ski hills.

Central Steamboat Springs is located between the ski area and downtown. Like other hotels on US 40, these places are less expensive than the cabins in the mountains. Visitors can take the free Orange Line or Green Line buses to the ski area.
The Yampa River Core Trail is another great way to get into downtown Steamboat Springs. Follow it to the Yampa River Botanic Gardens and even downtown attractions. Restaurants, grocery stores and ski rentals are all within walking distance of the area.

One of the most popular hotels is the Bristol Hotel, which has modern amenities and an in-room jacuzzi. From breakfast bakeries to breweries, there are dozens of food places downtown. There are also art galleries, charming boutiques, bookstores, museums and more. If you’re here, don’t miss F M Light & Sons, a western clothing store that’s been around for over a century.
Other downtown attractions include Howelsen Hill, Colorado’s longest ski area. Enjoy ice skating and hockey at Howelsen Park Ice Arena and immerse yourself in Old Town Spa. Also nearby are the Spring Creek Trail and Fish Creek Falls, the second tallest waterfall in the state.
Although the area is about three kilometers north of the ski area, the lifts are easily accessible within a 10-minute drive. There is also free access to the resort on the ExpressSST shuttle bus or the Red Line.

The area is about 8 miles south of Steamboat Ski Resort. Unfortunately, Steamboat Springs’ free bus system does not operate this way. If you plan to ski, renting a car is essential.
But skis aside, South Steamboat Springs’ biggest draw is the large luxury rental properties. These hotels are ideal for weddings, family reunions and other group gatherings.
