Family Friendly Things To Do Around Colorado Springs, Co
One of the first places on our list is Colorado Springs, high in the Rockies below Pikes Peak. It’s the perfect place for a long weekend, so we’ve rounded up some of the best things to do in Colorado Springs!
Colorado Springs, also known as “The Springs,” is almost smack in the middle of the state, halfway between Denver and Pueblo on Interstate 25. It sits at an elevation of just over 6,000 feet.
After talking to some locals, we found out that Colorado Springs doesn’t get much snow, which we were very surprised to learn. It’s also one of the sunniest cities in the state, which is great if you’re visiting Colorado and want some winter weather without the snow.
The Springs is also known as America’s Olympic City because it is the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee and is home to one of the main Olympic training centers in the country, as well as the USA Hockey and 50 + national sports organizations.

You will find that there is a large part of the military (Army and Air Force), and almost a quarter of the population is active in the military, military personnel and their families. Colorado Springs and nearby El Paso County are also home to command centers for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
This city is the largest city in the area of the state and is called the high desert; quite a bit with the snow-covered and tree-lined Rocky Mountains bordering one side of the city.

During our time in Colorado Springs, we called Cheyenne Mountain Resort our base. No matter what time of year you visit the area, this place is a great place to lay your head and explore all it has to offer.
Delightful Things To Do In Colorado Springs
Set on 200 acres, there is an 18-hole golf course, more than a dozen tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, spa and healthy wellness. You can explore the trails and the 35 acre lake, where you can swim, boat, kayak, canoe or paddle.
I liked this place because there are many activities available for its guests. If you want to swim, hike, boat, workout, do yoga or crossfit, play tennis, or just relax by the pool, it’s available. There is no shortage of exercise opportunities here.
We found the rooms to be well appointed and were lucky enough to have a great view of the mountains.
Although there is no shortage of fun things to do in Colorado Springs, on a weekend trip or longer, you should pick and choose more carefully than you would in the long run. So we’ve done the work for you and narrowed it down to the many gems that can be found when visiting Colorado Springs.

The Garden of the Gods is a public park, a National Natural Landmark, and the #1 visitor attraction in the area, and when you see it, you’ll know why. Beautiful green hills are dotted with red rock formations that seem to rise out of nowhere. This is a place to explore and there are many ways to do so.
You can take advantage of the 15 miles of hiking trails, ranging from concrete trails to fully sealed trails that wind through the red rocks that make the Park famous. The park also offers free guided walks every day. (Check at the Visitor Center.) Biking enthusiasts can enjoy the paved bike paths that run on all the same roads, with additional off-road trails for the best.
The mountains approach this mecca, which offers climbing for all levels. Visitors who want to face the towering red rock walls must have the right equipment and need a climbing permit (free of charge). In addition, Front Range Climbing Company offers half-day and full-day climbing tours for 1-4 people to suit all skill levels.
For adventurers, a fun way to get around the park is via Segway. ninety and 120 minute guided tours are available daily (Note: There are also guided car and jeep tours, and you can drive into the park and explore on your own.)

God’s Garden Nature and Visitor Center The Nature Center is more than just a hole in the wall. In fact, it is an international museum with modern technology, which celebrates the area’s geography, environment and cultural history, together with interactive exhibits and displays. Good for all ages.
If you want to get the best photos, arrive at sunrise or sunset. We arrived about 30 minutes before sunset and the light hit the red rocks and made them clearer. We quickly parked and walked down the street to explore the Garden of the Gods and take beautiful photos!
As you drive through the Garden of the Gods, there are several parks and lots of pull-outs where you can stop and take pictures or park for your hike. . There are a variety of scenic views throughout the park, so be sure to plan accordingly so you don’t miss the day.

Attractions Near Pikes Peak
This 14,115-foot peak in the Pike National Forest is the most visited peak in North America, attracting 500,000 visitors each year. Located above Colorado Springs in the Rockies, it is definitely a place worth exploring.
There are four surefire ways to see and explore Pike’s Peak: hike, bike, drive, or take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (closed in winter).
It’s a long walk up. In fact, the 13.5-mile Barr Trail climbs 7,510 vertical feet on its way, making it a 17-mile round trip; definitely not for the faint of heart. If you decide to do it all the way up and back, you’ll need to get up before dawn to get started. You don’t want to be stuck at the top after scheduled hours because it will cost you a pretty penny for Rescue to pick you up.
Whether you decide to walk the whole route or just part of it, make sure you have what you need in your bag. Lots of water, food and thick clothes (the temperature can drop to 30+ degrees from bottom to top), as well as rain (afternoon showers often surprise you).

You have two options if you want to explore on two wheels. You can bike to the top on the Pikes Peak Highway (and then come back down), or you can go on the Challenge Unlimited Bike Tour (closed for the winter and reopening in the spring). The tour picks you up by van in the morning, where you can disembark at your leisure. The tour includes summer gear, hats and lunch at Wines of Colorado.
It’s a 30-mile drive up the Pikes Peak Highway to the summit. You’ll pass three lakes, picnic areas, the historic Glen Cove Inn and the North Slope Recreation Area. Book a vacation rental and spend a day exploring this beautiful mountain.
The tallest cogwheel in the world, built in 1891, takes you up Pike’s Peak in style. The 3.5 hour tour allows you to see waterfalls, aspen forests, snowy mountains and some truly spectacular scenery. Advance booking is recommended.
Best Places To Visit In Colorado
Manitou Springs is a mountain resort community just outside the Colorado Springs border. Its name is a combination of the Native American word for “great spirit” and the eight mineral springs located in the town (and said to have healing properties). In addition to being the origin of the aforementioned Pikes Peak Cog Railway, this town supports a thriving tourist community, and the historic district is home to libraries, unique and specialty shops, and many restaurants.
For some outdoor activities, explore the Manitou Incline Trail, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, panning for gold or fishing, biking, hiking, biking or horseback riding.
