This was one of my favorite winter activities in Colorado that combines adventure travel with beautiful alpine scenery. Snowmobiling is very popular in Colorado and is offered in many areas such as Winter Park, Grand Lake and Buena Vista. We drove to Leadville for our snowmobile trip.

We met our guide who went over instructions on how to drive a snowmobile and then we were off. With miles and kilometers of roads, we had no problem driving. Not as crazy as our snowmobile tour in Iceland. We also stopped and the driver ordered us to race on a track made in the snow. Lots of fun!

Dog sledding in snowy mountain towns is becoming a very popular activity in Colorado. Go with a popular operator like Good Times Adventures. Each dog trip starts with a friendly and experienced guide who explains how to drive the sled and how to work with the beautiful Siberian Huskies.

The last time we went dog sledding was in Tahoe. The tour can take up to 6 people, it is run as a “relay” – guests will switch between driving the dog and riding the sled. When you say “Mush!” The wind blows in your face as you scream. Barking dogs walk along the road impatiently. Be sure to bring gloves, hand warmers, sunglasses, goggles, neck warmers, etc. You will be close to the ground.
