In this post, I share some of the best things to do in Denver! You’ll never run out of fun things to do in Denver, but we’re going to focus on a dozen that we think are worth your time in this mile-long city!
Best Things To Do In Denver, Colorado
Everyone knows Denver as the Mile City because of its height of 5,280 square feet. It is also the capital of Colorado, and the most populous city in the state. We also found out that US News and World Report gave it the best place to live in America.
We can see why it did well among other cities in the country. Denver is a thriving city with plenty of open space and opportunities for an active lifestyle, a beautiful city, many cultural attractions and a great culinary scene (they filmed the 15th Season of Top Chef here).
However, Denver’s altitude makes it difficult for some people to work. People with asthma and other health conditions may not feel comfortable here, but bakers have a little more time to get the cake to rise properly (it’s a form of art!).
We don’t have any serious health issues and we don’t intend to burn out during our year-long stay in the world, so Denver was a great place for us to land and enjoy the outdoors and all that the city has to offer.
Things To Do In October In Colorado
During our stay in Denver, our home was at the city’s historic Brown Palace Hotel. The Brown Palace is the oldest hotel in Denver, and they were celebrating their 125th anniversary when we were there. If you are wondering where to stay in Denver to have access to many activities, Brown Palace is it!
We find the Brown Palace Hotel special for many reasons. The exterior of the building was very modern for its time, built of stone in a flat or triangular shape. The facade has been preserved with a solid entrance that leads to an impressive living room with interior curtains, beautiful grills and arches and special lighting.
The Brown Palace Hotel also has several restaurants: the Ship Tavern, Ellyingtons, the Palace Arms and two pubs. They serve afternoon tea (a true Brit will love it) and Sunday brunch with Dom Perignon champagne. We appreciate that the chefs try to use local and sustainable ingredients while creating some delicious dishes.

Free Things To Do In Colorado
The spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheater is a spectacular, true, outdoor amphitheater set in deep red sandstone 26 miles west of Denver. Geology buffs, hikers, bikers, and music lovers all come to Red Rocks…every year.
The park itself covers 738 hectares and is located in the transition zone between the Great Plains and the Rockies. It has some unique and interesting geological features, remains of ancient inhabitants (including dinosaurs), flora and fauna, and some great hiking and biking trails. The park is free to enter and is open daily from one hour before sunset to one hour after sunset.
The 9,000-plus-seat amphitheater is a naturally formed bowl sandwiched between Ship Rock and Creation Rock, creating “perfect sound.” Concerts and events take place throughout the year and cover all genres of music, from techno and hip-hop to rock and country and everything in between. Although tickets are hard to come by – every show is sold out – if you have a few, you won’t regret it. Sitting in the stars with large monoliths around the two sides of the stage, you will lose yourself in the music.
Red Rocks Amphitheater is also known for its vigorous exercise! This stair workout is no joke! Peter and I tried it, and I was half way up the stairs out of breath! That’s for three reasons: Red Rocks Amphitheater sits at 6,000 feet above sea level, it has nearly 360 steps from the parking lot to the main concession stand, and we play sports in the winter because it’s cold!

Overall, Red Rocks Amphitheater is a great place to attend a performance, concert, event, or just to admire the red rock show! This is one of the best outdoor activities in Denver.
Located in the heart of the city in Cheesman Park, the Botanic Gardens are definitely worth a few hours (or more) of your time. With 41 gardens and more than 15,000 species of plants spread over 24 hectares, you will see some interesting flower exhibitions and sculptures and other art.
Docent-led tours are a great way to learn about the gardens. It all makes sense when expressed by someone who clearly loves their situation.
In summer, you’ll find outdoor festivals here, while winters bring the Blossoms of Light extravaganza.
Top Things To Do In Denver: Highlights Of Our 48 Hour Trip
Denver’s Union Station is much more than an urban transit station. Built in the early Art Deco era and still beautiful today, this station has city buses and trains, as well as Amtrak, the Crawford Hotel, boutiques and restaurants.
Located in what is now Lower Downtown, you will find Union Station bustling throughout the day and evening, with great people watching on the station’s benches and chairs. You can stroll through the different boutiques and galleries, stop for a cup of coffee, a cocktail or a full meal, or visit the luxury hotel within the walls.
Best of all, you can get anywhere in the city from this one location via RTD’s 125 bus routes, 9 light rail lines (with 53 stops), and free MetroRide and MallRide services. This is very convenient for visitors who do not want a car. You can also get transportation to the Denver airport and many local parks and resorts.
While exploring the town, we stumbled upon Union Station, just looking for something to eat, and then as we walked through the restaurants, we found small shops, bars, and open markets full of people. they drink, they work, and they just work. I am chatting with my friends. It’s a great place to take a break, enjoy a drink or coffee depending on the time of day, and relax.
Free Things You Gotta Do This April In Denver
Larimer Square is a historic area in Denver and is now home to apartments, rooms, boutiques, restaurants and clubs. Walking distance to downtown (and Union Station). It’s a great place to hang out, browse the shops, and stop for a bite to eat.
Shoppers will love all the independent shops offering shoes, clothes, jewelry, antiques, home goods, fashion and more. You can get a shave and a haircut, a spa for yourself (or your dog), or my favorite hat: a hat from Goorin Bros., a four-generation shop that will help you find the perfect outfit. behind the head. If you’re hungry, Larimer Market “boasts one of the region’s largest collections of great restaurants and chefs.” This means you will have good food no matter the time of day. The menu includes French, pub food, seafood, Italian, Mediterranean, premium BBQ and more. Your taste will not be patient.
How about jazz and cocktails in the Crimson Room? Have you laughed at Comedy Performances? Larimer Square has never been short of nightlife or the perfect mix of chemists.
Crazy Fun Things To Do In Denver With Kids
Each building at the Denver Art Museum is a work of art in itself. Before entering, you must see 3 buildings, which are the best museum in the stone period area.
The original building is modern about the castle and features more than 1 million glass cases on the outside, thanks to the vision of Gio Ponti. I was impressed by the museum’s second building, known as the Frédéric C. Hamilton Building. I can’t decide if it looks like a futuristic Star Wars spaceship (with 9,000 titanium plates) or if it was designed upside down. Either way, it’s glorious. And the third one
