Larimer Square, formerly known as Auraria, was first developed in the 1800s. Apparently it was used as a camp for immigrants after gold was discovered in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
As more and more people heard about these nuggets, many picked up the trees and went west to try their luck. Over the years, the small pioneer settlement prospered and became Larimer Square.
Today, Larimer Square has kept its charm and is a great place to visit, especially if you want to stroll through the boutiques, drink or go out to eat – we love Rioja, a place that reminds us of good food. Spanish fusion dishes are the best.

Newbie hikers can try hiking the Trading Post Trail for some amazing scenery. It’s really amazing and beautiful on a sunny day!
Oh, and don’t forget that Red Rocks is also home to the Red Rocks Amphitheater, which is iconic in its own right. With seasonal outdoor concerts and events, it’s a great place for dinner. Make sure to reserve your tickets before certain events as they can sell out quickly.

In addition, they have geothermally heated caves and springs where you can measure peace and relaxation. Note that the caves are usually first come, first serve, so get there early or you won’t be able to enter the cave. They can fill up at peak times.

Within the thousands of pieces, the signs are amazing and constantly changing. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to wander around because you can spend a lot of time inside.
About a 30-minute walk from Union Station, visiting the Colorado State Capital Building is one of the best things to do in Denver if you love history.
With a completely free tour (hourly, weekdays), you can discover the history of the building and Denver within the walls.
Also near Molly Brown’s House, the museum is filled with all the Victorian treasures collected by Titanic survivors over the years.

If that doesn’t appeal to you, visit the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a few minutes’ walk away. Here you can walk through the century old nave and stained glass windows.
With quirky street art, a cool vibe and amazing restaurants and shops, this is the kind of place to spend the afternoon exploring.
Over the years, the streets of RiNo have become more colorful, thanks to the work of foreign (and local) artists. To make things easier, you can book a local graffiti tour. It’s great to visit and the whole place has a cool vibe.
Be sure to check it out while you’re here; Zeppelin Station (for its food and drinks) and Mockery Brewing for its seasonals.

Speaking of RiNo, Denver Central Market is one of the best things to do in Denver if you want a cool place to relax for a few hours in the afternoon.
Housed in a converted warehouse, it’s home to many of the local and independent retailers that make Denver great. Once inside, pop into Temper for their eclectic chocolate creations and try the Curio Bar – all good.
Oh, and be sure to check out the local expert tables in the market. Each one is different and beautiful to see.
About a 30-minute drive south of Denver is Roxborough State Park, a must-see when visiting Colorado.

With easy-to-follow trails (like the Fountain Valley Trail), this is one of Denver’s most accessible hiking spots for the whole family. Not only that, but it’s generally quiet and a great place to see the red rocks of the area.
Just be sure to take sunscreen, you can easily burn walking these trails as there is little shade.
Once you’re back in Denver, head down Broadway and stop at Voodoo Donut for their deliciously delicious creations. Also, there is Szputnyik, which is a good early morning hangout. the jalapeno tequila cocktail (called Thor) is everything!
Although only about 140 minutes from downtown Denver, Mount Evans is well worth a visit and perfect if you’re on a great tour of the Colorado area. However, you can easily visit for a day!

Now, to get to Mount Evans, you have to drive down the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, which is almost as beautiful as Mount Evans. It’s beautiful, it’s known as the “road to heaven,” and if you drive it, you’ll understand why.
Rising above 14,000 feet (above sea level), this is the type of drive that will make you see how amazing and amazing Colorado is!
Once you’re at the top, be sure to visit Summit Lake, a park near the Meyer-Womble Lookout, and enjoy views of the Rocky Mountains. This is amazing.
Remember, this is only possible in the summer months when the roads are clear and safe from snow.

Most American cities have some kind of Union Station, but Denver’s Union Station is something special!
Recently renovated, it is home to several restaurants and is right in the heart of the Lower Downtown area known as LoDo.
After you’ve wandered around the Denver harbor, be sure to stop by the Denver Milk Market for a delicious lunch. They serve a wide variety of food in a cool market.
Oh, and don’t forget Little Man Ice Cream, located across the South Platte River. This is where Colorado’s best ice cream is found. Their hot cinnamon roll is everything!

Want more fun? Head to nearby Elitch Gardens, a wonderland of roller coasters, Ferris wheels and Boomerangs!
Built over 100 years ago, the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower is an iconic part of Denver and can be easily found downtown.
It’s great to look at and worth a visit to see the history of the look.
You can continue your walk to downtown Denver via the 16th Street Mall. A mile long shopping area with shops, restaurants and bars.
