Known as the best winter destination for the well-heeled, Spain is a snow sports destination with not one but four mountains to visit. However, going down the slope is not the only way to explore this area.

Just because you’re not skiing doesn’t mean you have to stop hitting the slopes. Spain is a beautiful place in the winter, and one of my favorite ways to explore is in the snow. There’s a saying “if you can walk, you can slide,” and I’m proof of its truth (I’m often shocked). Throw on some warm layers and (preferably) good waterproof boots, then hit the snow and you’re good to go!
The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) offers daily snowshoe tours of Aspen Mountain, Ashcroft and Snowmass. If you want to get out on your own, head to the Aspen Golf Course—which transforms into the Aspen Cross Country Center in the winter—or the beautiful Hunter Valley.
ACES also offers independent tours with nature guides, allowing you to explore the mountains, forests and wildlife at your own pace.
It may seem far-fetched, but cycling isn’t just for summer. Fat bikes – bikes with big tires that keep pulling snow – have become the way to get around in the winter. Rent one of the many shops in town and choose from the many nearby streets.

The aptly named Span Fat Bike Loop is a 4.5 mile loop designed for fat bikers. For a longer hike, the Rio Grande Trail is a 42-mile cycle path that is vegetated, groomed and snow-free. I love riding this trail in the summer, but it’s great to see snow on the trail.
Long-distance bikes look like regular bikes, but they can be tough – snow biking can be a tough workout. If you’re looking for a real challenge, head to Independence Pass: the summit is a 19-mile hike from Aspen.
Another great group activity is dog sledding – a fun experience for the whole family, especially the animal lovers in your group. There’s nothing quite like gliding through pristine forest, pulled by eight to 12 incredibly energetic (and fun) Alaskan huskies. These dogs really enjoy running, and their enthusiasm is contagious – it’s a wonderful way to spend a morning in the snow.
Visit the kennel to meet a puppy and learn the science of keeping a happy and healthy dog. If it’s the right time of year, you’ll come across dogs, which can be an even better experience than driving!

If you want high speeds, go mountain tubing at Aspen Snowmass. The trails in the Meadows at Elk Camp are serviced by lifts (meaning you can see more trails without having to climb with your tube). We usually shop for 2.5 hours and enjoy all the channels we can stomach in that time.
You can also purchase a pass that includes access to the Alpine Coaster, a rollercoaster ride that can reach speeds of up to 28 mph. I love the thrill of tubing, but I have to admit: having the wind in my hair on an alpine coaster is one of my favorite winter experiences.
Of course, you’ll also find plenty of indoor entertainment options in Aspen. Visit world-class restaurants (including ones you can only reach by snowmobile) or sip delicious sodas at local brewpubs. Relax with a luxurious spa treatment, or soak in the hot tub as the flakes fall around you. You’ll agree that there are plenty of people who can enjoy Aspen without a pair of skis. We can’t leave Colorado without spending time at one of the top ski resorts in Aspen, Colorado because there is no shortage of things to do in Aspen! And, like many visitors before us, we have never been disappointed with what this Stone Mountain has to offer. Its popularity now means that the 7,000 permanent residents fill up during the winter, while the temporary residents who they gather here to use the restaurant for games and other activities.

If you don’t belong to some people. who call Aspen home, be sure to reserve your hotels in advance as they get busy during the winter and can sell out!
What To Pack For Colorado In Winter? Colorado Winter Outfits & Ski Wear
Aspen has a small regional airport (Aspen-Pitkin Airport called Sandy Field) and is served by United, Delta and American Airlines. There are direct flights from several US cities, or you can fly into Denver and take a quick 30-minute flight to Aspen. You can also book Colorado Mountain Express flights to Aspen from Denver International.
Alternatively, you can drive – it’s 3.5 hours from Denver – or take the Amtrak to nearby Glenwood Springs and take the RFTA bus to Aspen. .
Winter temperatures range from 10 degrees at night to the mid-30s during the day, with an average of 23 inches of snow per month. Because of the low temperature, you hardly see rain during winter.
During our stay in Aspen, we decided to stay at the Limelight Hotel Aspen. We love the history of this modern brick and wood building, now owned by the Aspen Skiing Society, along with its inviting rooms, pet-friendly policy, and delicious breakfast.

The property once housed a ski and spa bar-restaurant, a unique property that caters to local and visiting cyclists. In the 1950s, it was sold and renamed the Limelight and became a nightclub and theater, owned by folk singer Glenn Yarbrough (of the Limelight). Although many famous singers of the time visited, the popularity forced it to be sold and the new owners built an inn, which was renovated and expanded over time to its current state.
The rooms are very spacious, have work desks, sitting areas and even make java coffee in the morning before departure. Their suite is also well appointed, with a large living/dining area, kitchen and fireplace to warm up after a day in the snow.
My favorite thing in our room is the fireplace, which I keep running while we’re in the room to keep it warm. As I said earlier, it is cold in Spain so the oven is a great and convenient thing.
The hotel offers free rides around the city or in the lift, a wide range of leisure activities and a wide selection of car tires and bicycle tires so you can hit the hills or explore the city. One of the funniest trips we have ever enjoyed,
