Best Attractions In Denver Colorado
In this post, I’m going to share some of the best things to do in Denver! You’ll never run out of fun things to do in Denver, but we’re focusing on a dozen that we think are worth spending time in this mile-high city!
Observatory Park (denver)
Everyone knows Denver as the Mile High City because it sits exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. It is the capital of Colorado and the most populous city in the state. ME. We discovered that News & World Report named it the best place to live in the US.
We can see why it ranks well among other cities in the country. Denver is a thriving metropolis with lots of open space and opportunities for an active lifestyle, a great downtown, a wide variety of cultural activities, and a great culinary scene (Top Chef season 15 was filmed here).
However, Denver’s altitude can be challenging for some people. People with asthma and other health conditions may not feel comfortable here, and bakers have a good time getting the cakes to rise properly (it’s an art form!).
We don’t suffer from any serious health issues and we don’t intend to cook on our year-round trip around the world, so Denver is a great place for us to come and enjoy nature and all that the city has to offer.

Our home base during our time in Denver was the historic Brown Palace Hotel downtown. The Brown Palace is Denver’s oldest continuously operating hotel and they were celebrating their 125th anniversary when we were there. If you are wondering where to stay in Denver for the best access to many activities, Brown Palace is for you!
We consider the Brown Palace Hotel unique for many reasons. The exterior construction was very modern for that time, built of stone in a flat or triangular shape. He installed a facade with an intricate entrance leading to a great hall with interior corridors, beautiful lattices and arches, and unique lighting.
The Brown Palace Hotel also has several restaurants: the Ship Tavern, Ellington’s, the Palace Arms and two cocktail lounges. They serve afternoon tea (a true Englishman would be impressed) and Dom Pérignon champagne brunch on Sundays. We appreciate that the chef tries to use local and sustainable ingredients while preparing some delicious dishes.
With Brown Palace right in the heart of the city, it was a great starting point for our daily explorations of Denver. Let’s take a look at some of the best things we could do in Denver….
Fun & Unique Things To Do In Denver, Colorado [updated For 2022]
The breathtakingly beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater and its magnificent, surreal and magnificent outdoor amphitheater is nestled between deep red sandstone cliffs 26 miles west of Denver. Geology enthusiasts, hikers, bikers and music lovers all flock to Red Rocks…year round.
The park covers 738 hectares and is located in the transition zone between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. It contains some very unique and interesting geological features, remains of past inhabitants (including dinosaurs), flora and fauna and some great walking and cycling trails. Entrance to the park is free and is open every day from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
The amphitheater, with a seating capacity of over 9,000, is a naturally formed basin between Ship Rock and Creation Rock, creating “acoustic perfection”. Concerts and events are held throughout the year and cover all genres of music, from techno and hip-hop to rock and country and everything in between. Although tickets are hard to come by – every concert sells out – if you manage to snag a few, you won’t be disappointed with the experience. Sitting among the stars with huge monoliths on either side of the stage, you’ll lose yourself in the music.
Red Rocks Amphitheater is known for its high intensity workouts! This stair training is no joke! Petar and I tried it and I ran out of breath in the middle of the stairs! This for 3 reasons, Red Rocks amphitheater is 6000 feet tall, there are about 360 steps from the parking lot to the upper concession, and we practiced on the steps in the winter, it was cool!

Overall, Red Rocks Amphitheater is a great place to visit for practice, concerts, events, or just to enjoy the red sandstone and scenery! This is one of the best outdoor activities in Denver.
The Botanic Gardens, located in the heart of the city in Cheesman Park, are definitely worth a few hours (or more) of your time. With more than 15,000 plant species set in 41 gardens and 24 acres, you’ll see some spectacular floral displays as well as sculptures and other works of art.
A great way to learn about the gardens is on a docent-led tour. Everything makes more sense when explained by someone who clearly loves his surroundings.
In the summer, you’ll find outdoor festivals here, while the winter holidays bring the extravagant Blossoms of Light.

Denver’s Union Station is more of a transit hub in the city. Built in the early Art Deco period and still stunning today, the station is home to the city’s bus and train lines, as well as Amtrak, the Crawford Hotel, shops and restaurants.
Located in what is now known as Lower Downtown, Union Station is a hive of activity most days and evenings, with excellent vantage points for people-watching on couches and station chairs. You can stroll through various shops and galleries, stop by for a cup of coffee, a cocktail or a full meal or visit a luxury hotel within the walls.
Best of all, you can get anywhere in the city from this location with 125 RTD bus lines, 9 light rail lines (with 53 stops), and free MetroRide and MallRide services. This is very convenient for visitors who do not want to own a car. You can also find transportation to Denver International Airport as well as local ski resorts and resorts.
While exploring the city we came across Union Station, we were looking for something to eat and then while walking around the restaurant we discovered several small shops, bars and an open square where people were drinking, working and hanging out with friends. It is a great place to hang out, have a drink or coffee depending on the time of day and relax.
Denver Vacations: Colorado Attractions
Larimer Square is a historic neighborhood in Denver and is currently home to galleries, boutiques, restaurants and clubs. A short walk from downtown (and Union Station), it’s a great place to hang out, shop, and grab a bite to eat.
Shopaholics will appreciate all the independent shops offering shoes, clothing, jewelry, antiques, homewares, beauty products and more. You can get a shave and a haircut, a spa treatment for yourself (or your dog), or my favorite: a hat from Gorin Brothers, a shop run by four generations of artisans, where they’ll help you find the perfect rug. into your head Their is a Goorin Brothers hat shop in Austin, Texas and we bought two hats while we lived there. (If you’re traveling to Austin soon, be sure to check out my Ultimate Travel Guide: The Best Things to Do in Austin!)
If you’re hungry, Larimer Square is home to “one of the most significant collections of chef-owned and regional specialty restaurants in the country.” That means you’ll find great food no matter the time of day. The menu includes French, Pub, Seafood, Italian, Mediterranean, fine grill and more. Your palate is unforgiving.
How about some jazz and a cocktail in the Crimson Room? Or some laughs at Comedy Works? Larimer Square is never short of nightlife or great mixologists.

Each building of the Denver Art Museum is a work of art in itself. Before entering, you must visit the 3 structures that make up the best time zone museum on the mountain.
The original building is a modern version of the castle and, thanks to Gio Ponti’s vision, has 1 million reflective glass tiles on the exterior. Federico C. I was very impressed with the second structure of the museum, known as the Hamilton Building. I can’t decide if it looks like a futuristic Star Wars spaceship (with its 9,000 titanium plates) or if it was designed upside down. Anyway, it’s great. Third and
