One of the first places on our list is Colorado Springs, located in the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. It’s the perfect place for a weekend getaway, so we’ve rounded up some of the best things to do in Colorado Springs!
Colorado Springs, also known as “The Springs”, is located in the middle of the state, between Denver and Pueblo, on Interstate 25. It is at an elevation of just over 6,000 feet.
After talking to some locals, we learned that it doesn’t snow much in Colorado Springs, which we were very surprised to learn. It’s also one of the sunniest cities in the state, perfect if you’re visiting Colorado and want to experience cold weather without the snow.
Springs is also known as America’s Olympic City because it is home to the United States Olympic Committee, one of the largest Olympic training centers in the country, as well as USA Hockey and more than 50 national sports organizations.

When we were in Colorado Springs we called our resort Cheyenne Mountain Resort. No matter what time of year you visit the area, this resort is a great place to lay your head and explore all it has to offer.

We found the living room to be well appointed and we were lucky enough to have an incredible view of the mountains.

Things To Do In Colorado Springs This Weekend
This 14,115-foot peak in the Pike National Forest is the most visited peak in North America, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually. Located in the Rocky Mountains above Colorado Springs, it is definitely a place worth exploring.
There are actually 4 ways to see and explore Pike’s Peak: walking, biking, driving, or taking the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (closed in winter).
It’s a long walk to the top. In fact, the Barr Trail has 13.5 miles of 7,510 vertical feet of climbing along its route, which is 27 miles round trip; definitely not for the faint of heart. If you choose to go up and back, get up before dawn to start. You don’t want to stay in the top row after the posted hours, you’ll pay a lot if Rescue gets you.
Whether you choose to hike all or part of it, make sure you pack the necessary equipment. Water, food and thicker clothes (the temperature can drop more than 30 degrees from the bottom to the top), as well as equipment (afternoon showers often surprise you).

If you think hiking in Pikes Peak is a challenge you’d like to take on, read more here.
You have two options if you want to look at two wheels. You can bike to the top (and then back down) on the Pikes Peak Highway, or take the Challenge Unlimited Bike Tour (closed during the winter season and open again in the spring). The route takes you to the top by van in the morning, and you can come down at your leisure. Tour includes warm weather gear, helmet and lunch at Wines of Colorado.
The Pikes Peak Highway is 30 km from the summit. You’ll pass three lakes, a picnic area, the historic Glen Cove Inn, and the northern rest area. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day exploring this beautiful mountain.
Built in 1891, the world’s tallest cable car takes you up Pike’s Peak in style. The 3.5-hour round trip offers waterfalls, aspen forests, snowy mountains and breathtaking views. Advance reservations are recommended.

Manitou Springs is a mountain community just outside the borders of Colorado Springs. Its name is a combination of the American word for “great spirit” and the eight carbon mineral springs that cover the town (and are believed to have healing properties). These fountains are free for anyone who wants to participate, and there are seven fountains to explore around the city. Click here to see the resource map.
In addition to being the starting point for the aforementioned Pikes Peak Cog Railway, this town supports a vibrant community and the historic district is home to galleries, unique independent shops, and eclectic and diverse restaurants.
For outdoor adventures, check out the Manitou Incline Trail, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, go gold panning or fishing, river rafting, hiking, biking or horseback riding.
The famous Manitou Incline Trail is only a mile away, but it’s not far
