Family Fun In The Heart Of Colorado: The Best Family Friendly Activities In Colorado Springs

One of the first places on our list was Colorado Springs, located high in the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. It’s the perfect destination for a long weekend getaway, so we’ve rounded up some of the best things to do in Colorado Springs!

Colorado Springs, also known as “The Springs,” is located right in the middle of the state, halfway between Denver and Pueblo on Highway 25. It sits at an elevation of over 6,000 feet.

After talking to some locals, we learned that Colorado Springs doesn’t get much snow and were surprised to learn that. If you’re visiting Colorado and want nice weather without the snow, this is one of the sunniest cities in the state.

Springs holds the title of Olympic City USA because it is home to the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee and one of the largest Olympic training facilities in the country, as well as USA Hockey and more than 50 national sports organizations.

With about a quarter of the population being active duty military and civilian personnel and their families, you will find that there is a significant military presence (land and air force). Colorado Springs and nearby El Paso County are the command center of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

The largest city in the state, this sprawling metropolis is considered the high desert. Like the snow-capped, tree-lined Rocky Mountains that border the city on one side.

I love this resort because there are so many activities for guests. Whether you want to swim, hike, boat, play sports, yoga or exercise, play tennis or just relax by the pool. There is no shortage of fitness opportunities here.

We found the rooms to be well appointed and lucky enough to have a nice view of the mountains.

While there’s no shortage of fun things to do in Colorado Springs for a weekend or longer, you’ll have to choose more carefully than during an extended stay. So we’ve done the work for you and narrowed it down to a few gems of visiting Colorado Springs.

The Top 10 Things To Do In Colorado Springs

Garden of the Gods is a state park, a national natural landmark, and the number one attraction in the area, and you’ll understand why when you see it. Beautiful green hills dotted with red rocky cliffs that seem to come out of nowhere. This is an area to explore and there are many ways to do it.

Take advantage of 15 miles of hiking trails, from cement paths to full loops, through the red rocks that make the Garden of the Gods famous. The park offers free walking tours every day. (Register at the Visitor Center.) Biking enthusiasts can enjoy paved bike paths that run along all one-way roads.

The rock formations jutting into this mecca offer climbing for all skill levels. Visitors wishing to climb the towering red rocks must have appropriate equipment and a climbing permit (which is free). In addition, Front Range Climbing Company offers customized half-day and full-day climbing tours for 1-4 people for all skill levels.

For those who do not like adventures, an interesting way to move around the park is a segway. Ninety- and 120-minute guided tours are available daily (note: there are also trolley and jeep tours, and you can just drive through the park and explore on your own).

Visiting Gods and Nature Center The Nature Center is located behind a hole in the wall. It is actually a world-class technology museum that celebrates the geology, ecology and cultural history of the region interactively and interactively. Perfect for any age.

If you want to take great photos, be sure to come at dawn or sunset. We arrived about 30 minutes before sunset and the light was hitting the red rocks making it even more vivid. We immediately stopped and hit the road to explore the Garden of the Gods and take some great photos.

As you drive through the Garden of the Gods, there are plenty of parking spaces and paths for you to stop to take photos or stroll around. There are a variety of beautiful views throughout the park, so be sure to plan accordingly so you don’t run out of daylight.

Top Things To Do This Holiday Season In Colorado Springs

This 14,115-foot peak in the Pike National Forest is the most visited peak in North America, attracting more than 500,000 visitors each year. Perched above Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains, this is definitely a place worth exploring.

There are 4 authentic ways to see and explore Pikes Peak: on foot, by bike, by car, or by cog train (closed in winter).

It’s a long way to the top. In fact, the Bar Trail is a 13.5-mile climb with 7,510 vertical feet on the trail, making it a 27-mile round trip; Certainly not for the faint of heart. If you decide to hike the entire trail up and down, you’ll need to be up before dawn to get started. You don’t want to be stuck at the top after hours because it costs a pretty penny to save you.

Whether you decide to hike the entire trail or just part of it, make sure you have the essentials in your bag. Plenty of water, food and thick clothes (temperatures can drop to 30+ degrees below), and a raincoat (afternoon showers often catch you off guard).

If you want to explore on two wheels, you have two options. You can bike the Pikes Peak Highway (reduce) or take an unlimited bike tour (closed for the winter and reopened in the spring). The tour will pick you up in the morning by truck, from where you can exit at your leisure. Tour includes warm weather gear, helmet and lunch at a Colorado winery.

The summit is a 29-mile drive on the Pikes Peak Highway. You’ll pass three lakes, picnic areas, the historic Glen Cove Inn, and the North Slope Recreation Area. Pack a picnic lunch and plan your day exploring this beautiful mountain.

Built in 1891, the world’s longest cogwheel will take you to the top of Pike Peak in style. The 3.5-hour round trip offers views of waterfalls, aspen forests, snow-capped mountains and truly stunning scenery. Advance booking is recommended.

Manitou Springs is a mountain resort located near the Colorado Springs border. Its name is a combination of the Native American word for “great spirit” and the eight carbonate mineral springs (said to have healing properties) that overlook the city. The city is also home to the aforementioned Pikes Peak Cogwheel Railroad, supports a vibrant artisan community, and the historic district is home to galleries, unique independent shops, and a variety of restaurants.
