Longs Peak (Arapaho: Níisótoyóú’u) is a high and prominent mountain in the North Front Range of the North American Rocky Mountains. The 14,259-foot (4,346 m) fort is located in the wilderness of Rocky Mountain National Park, 9.6 miles (15.5 km) southwest of the town of Estes Park in Colorado, United States. Longs Peak is the northernmost peak of the Colorado Rockies and the highest point in Boulder County and Rocky Mountain National Park. The mountain was named in honor of explorer Steph Harriman Long and is located on the territory of the state of Colorado.

Longs Peak is clearly visible from Longmont, Colorado and the northern Front Range Urban Corridor. Rising 9,000 feet (2,700 m) above the western edge of the Great Plains, it is one of Colorado’s most prominent mountains.

The record number of ascents to the summit of Longs Peak is 428 by Jim Deterline. Jim is a Rescue Officer at Rocky Mountain National Park. He died in an accident while traveling alone on October 23, 2016. Jim rescued more than 1,000 people in the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park and received the Wheeler Award from the U.S. Department of the Interior. He was also given the title of “Mr. Long’s Peak”.
